?? Graphene Breakthrough! ?? Researchers at Columbia Engineering, in collaboration with the Université de Montréal and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), have made a major breakthrough in the synthesis of high-quality graphene! ???? Using an oxygen-free chemical vapor deposition (OF-CVD) method, the team has developed a technique to produce reproducible, high-quality graphene at scale. This innovative process eliminates virtually all oxygen from the growth environment, addressing the long-standing issue of variable quality in CVD-grown graphene. ??? Key Highlights: - The OF-CVD method creates pristine graphene samples with high reproducibility. - The quality matches that of exfoliated graphene, which is often too small for industrial applications. - This breakthrough opens the door for large-scale production of graphene, paving the way for its use in electronics, energy storage, sensors, and biomedical devices. ????? - Excitingly, their high-quality graphene even exhibited the fractional quantum Hall effect under magnetic fields, a rare quantum phenomenon! ?? Meet the new Editor-in-Chief of Nano Futures! ?? Newly appointed EiC, Vincenzo Pecunia, is an Associate Professor and the Head of the Sustainable Optoelectronics Research Group at the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering, Simon Fraser University (Canada). His research focuses on printable semiconductors (e.g., perovskite-inspired materials, organic semiconductors, and carbon nanotubes), their photoelectronic properties, and their applications in sustainable optoelectronics and photovoltaics. Nahrain University Engineering Professor Publishes Research in an International Journal Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Fawzi Al-Tamimi, a faculty member in the Department of Laser and Optoelectronics Engineering at Al-Nahrain University, published a joint research paper with PhD student Kamal Kazem in the Journal of Optics, part of the global publishing house Springer Nature, renowned for its high scientific standards, with a Cite Score of 2.6 and an Impact Factor of 1.6. The research, titled “OptiFusion Optical Cloaking Method Based on Hiding OFDM Signal in Gaussian Beam Intensity”, aimed to enhance the security of Free Space Optical (FSO) communications by using the OptiFusion cloaking method. This method provides protection against environmental and atmospheric disturbances while improving data transmission efficiency through modern techniques like Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM).

?? Exciting Research Update! ?? I’m thrilled to share my latest publication on my PhD research on the analysis of semiconductor properties of graphene materials doped with TiO?, ZnO, Al?O?, and BN! In this study, we explored how doping graphene with these diverse materials enhances its semiconducting performance, enabling new possibilities for applications in electronics, sensors, and energy storage. ? TiO? doping improves photoconductivity and energy conversion efficiency. ? ZnO introduces exceptional optoelectronic properties, ideal for display technologies. ? Al?O? enhances thermal stability and dielectric strength, key for high-performance transistors. ? BN doping offers a band gap that tailors graphene’s semiconducting capabilities, pushing the boundaries for next-gen nanoelectronics. This research opens new avenues for advanced material design in the semiconductor industry and is a step toward more efficient, sustainable technology solutions. A multidisciplinary research team comprising scientists from Berkeley Lab, University of California, Berkeley, Penn State University, and Xi'an Jiaotong University, including Dr. Colin Ophus, Prof. Robert Ritchie, and Prof. Andrew Minor, employed advanced techniques such as energy-filtered 4D-STEM and X-ray diffraction with in-situ nanomechanical testing combined with MD simulations to examine the rejuvenation process in CrCoNi single crystal under cyclic mechanical loading. Their findings revealed that reversible stacking faults and twin boundaries became irreversible after numerous loading/unloading cycles, pointing to reduced stacking fault energy and rejuvenation, suggesting remarkable damage tolerance in these materials. The research sheds light on the rejuvenation phenomenon in high- and medium-entropy alloys, providing crucial insights into their mechanical behavior and potential applications.
