Biglaw isn’t for everyone. So it’s a good thing that the legal ecosystem ranges from international law firm, to in-house, to regional boutique, to governmental service, non-profit work, and more. Karen S. Vladeck, managing director at NALSC: the National Association of Legal Search Consultants legal recruiting firm Whistler Partners, lays out the advantages of practicing with a boutique law firm in particular, including agility, ability to bring in a wide variety of clients, early hands-on experience and client interaction, an intimate firm culture, and—possibly—a niche practice focus. She warns, however, that “Particularly in boutique practices, openings are not widely posted and working with a recruiter who specializes in boutiques can be invaluable.” Read her full article here: https://buff.ly/3Td1Uy5 To find a reputable legal recruiter in your area, consult the searchable online Directory of NALSC members at https://buff.ly/3NcBcAl. #lawjobs #legaljobs #legalrecruiting #nalsc #legalmarket

?? Helping Businesses Access Quality Legal Support ??| Champion of Women in Law ???? | Thought Leader ?? | Workplace Culture Change Advocate | Top B-Corp Founder | Keynote Speaker | Honorary Doctorate x 2
??? “If you build it, they will come” And so I have been building Obelisk Support | B Corp Certified … ?? Here we are today! Marking our 14 year in business ?? ?? Me in 2010 - a junior solicitor with no external funding, a £500 budget to put a website up AND pregnant; to my amazement, I had just been recognised as one of 35 UK business women under 35 by Management Today so I felt I could build a legal business from nothing with nothing ?? ?? My simple idea - companies have too much legal work they don’t get done as they found existing solutions too expensive; why outsource to cheap jurisdictions when so many super smart and qualified women lawyers want to work right here! It was ?? to hear them tell me “I am just a mom- noone wants my legal skills!”. They needed flexible jobs to fit around family commitments and Obelisk stepped in to create those opportunities and make sure the flexibility would work for clients too! Things were hard and even more so after our child was born in year 1 of the business and everything was just too much at times - a new mum with no money and no sleep trying to scale up was going to take a while … My husband, John Denis-Smith, always encouraged me to keep on building, advice that was particularly needed when I had doubts (he is a construction barrister after all!) as winning clients was not easy in a profession where personal networks are so strong and hierarchy still rules; a junior solicitor launching a business to help #generalcounsel get work done differently was not headline grabbing! I was "no mover and shaker" breaking free of #BigLaw! ??Every client, every invoice, every legal consultant who joined us and believed in us in those early days - we worked so so hard to service and retain and I carry those early success stories in my heart forever ?? Our success from a standing start to a multimillion business took a LOT of blood, sweat and tears and I literally measure it in human life as I track my child’s life alongside Obelisk’s - I now have 2 steadfast champions at home, encouraging me to keep on building! But without a team, all you build is a sandcastle so thank you to all those who have helped carve the Obelisk story in stone - Jane Leader, who joined back 12 year ago or so, and everyone in the team Dan, Chloe Cook Tom Birkett Caroline Allen Jessica Rivett (reunited post - Linklaters ??) Debbie T. Amandah Muchengeti Khairat Abubakar Kate Lee Sana Suzanne Harcourt (née Fennell) Fion L. Claire Gabbey ??Growth takes time and, as I mentioned in my talk last week Robert Hanna & Kate Burt #GBLO2024 you need to have guts and goals! Back in 2010 we had the guts to call out the lack of flexible work and the loss of talent in the legal profession - the world has changed for the better but our goals remain ambitious & aligned to building well and, importantly, sustainably! ?? snaps from the early days and all the awesome things we were always doing differently ??

Board-Certified Employment Law Attorney at Johnson Jackson PLLC; Member, Florida Bar Special Committee on Artificial Intelligence; I defend employers from unfounded lawsuits and provide trusted advice to management.
Interested in some practical HR/employment-law compliance tips for running a small to midsize law firm? I spent an hour chatting with Christine Bilbrey, MBA and Jamie Moore for the Florida Bar's LegalFuel podcast about this topic. I am hopeful that this will give lawyers some good practical takeaways that they can put into action within their own firms. And yes, I may have had to learn some of these things the hard way! That's what thirty years in this field buys you. If you have any tips you'd like to add to these, please feel free to share them in the comments. Same goes for any questions that you have. The idea is for this to be a useful resource where you can get quality advice for free (and even pick up some CLE credit for listening to it). #JohnsonJackson #trustedadvice #employmentlaw #humanresources #lawfirms #lawfirmadministration #legaladministrators #FloridaBar #LegalFuel #employmentlaw #compliance #soloandsmallfirm
