Middle School, Middle Level- these are the people who guide the boys who have to jump as high as they can on every doorway. The girls who are figuring out what to carry in their purse. The ones who call eveyone “bruh” and “bro” every day and as generically as possible. The ones who will -probably- work for a single Starburst, or any type of food… The ones who still need recess every day even if the school doesn’t schedule it, because kinetic energy is still all over the place… when they act awake after 9am. The ones who can change the smell of a room in 3.5 seconds. The ones who are too cool and are too silly- within five minutes and back again. The ones who sometimes have the self-control of a gnat, and then have startlingly profound awareness. The ones who are both mean and kind on the same day. The ones whose brains are neuro-organizing all the files in new places and they forget everything and all their stuff. The ones whose energy could power the world, just like Monsters Inc. The ones who take a special kind of teacher to *get* them. They’re not just smaller high schoolers. Hats ?? Off to the Middle Level Educators.
March is Middle-Level Education Month! ?? Join us in celebrating the incredible contributions of middle school principals, assistant principals, and educators. They are the backbone of our educational system, shaping the futures of countless students. #MLEM https://lnkd.in/eNsMjn9T

Historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) face an uphill battle when it comes to accumulating substantial endowments. According to a joint survey by PGIM and the United Negro College Fund, HBCUs have much smaller endowments compared to Ivy League institutions and many public universities. This disparity poses a challenge to the financial stability and long-term growth of HBCUs. It's important to recognize this issue and work towards finding solutions that support and uplift these institutions. #HBCUs #HigherEducation #EndowmentDisparities https://lnkd.in/eUVKuAGt

A first-of-its-kind program aimed at bringing former students back into the UNC System to complete their bachelor’s degree is having a substantial effect on enrollment throughout the state. The Re-Enrollment Program – offered by Project Kitty Hawk, an affiliated entity of the UNC System – contacts former students who started a degree at a UNC System institution but never finished. Re-enrollment counselors walk them through options of when and how they can resume their studies, including re-enrolling at their former university or finding another institution within the UNC System that fits their needs. Since the PKH Re-Enrollment Program began in May 2023, 1,791 students have been brought back into UNC System institutions through the program. Fifty-two percent of students who have re-enrolled through the PKH Re-Enrollment Program have been out of school for at least three years – a demographic that universities across the country often struggle to bring back into higher education Learn More: https://ow.ly/8owL50SxbI9

During our seminar course (PSYC 400 in Fall 2022 at Queen's University), we were challenged to find a gap in higher education and propose a solution. We found research highlighting that financial barriers are a big deterrent for students who choose not to pursue higher education.? Despite the strain of financial barriers, a higher education degree is important for so many reasons. It can reduce the income gap, mitigate the effects of the poverty cycle, and is associated with a host of long-term health and well-being effects. In a market where 70% of new jobs in Canada require a post-secondary degree, the benefits of higher education are profound.? However, millions of dollars in scholarship money goes unclaimed each year, due to a lack of applicants. Considering the amount of debt students undertake to fund their higher education, and the number of students who do not pursue higher ed because of its financial burden, we wanted to find a way to bridge the gap. One of the factors that compounds the financial barriers is that students who require financial assistance only capitalize on available scholarship money if they feel they have the necessary skills to create a successful application (Hoff, 2013). In the Fall of 2023, we conducted market research and spoke to over 500 students at Queen’s. Our market research suggested that the majority of students feel unsupported during the scholarship application process and lack the tools, resources, and confidence to apply. This is the gap we are trying to address. While our project is not the only solution needed to increase accessibility to higher education, we believe in its ability to bridge the gap between students and unused scholarship funds.?

Curious about the big topics in the North Carolina Community College System this year? The article below gives a great overview! ?? #educate #inspire #support #yourcommunityyourcollege
North Carolina's community colleges are facing a pivotal year in 2024. I have spent the past three months producing a landscape analysis I hope you will take the time to read. One key development will be the potential implementation of Propel NC, a new funding formula that could significantly impact the allocation of resources across the system. Additionally, the introduction of a three-year graduation plan and the mass expansion of Opportunity Scholarships may influence dual enrollment programs. Throughout the year, we will closely monitor these issues and their impact on the community college system in North Carolina. Stay tuned! https://lnkd.in/eSqz2hGD
