I'm thrilled to see Manitoba's new science curriculum embracing Indigenous perspectives within the Natural World. Recognizing Indigenous knowledge is crucial in understanding our environment. When sharing Indigenous stories, it's essential to do so respectfully and with cultural sensitivity. Here are key considerations: - Respectful Storytelling: Share stories accurately and with an understanding of Indigenous traditions. - Cultural Sensitivity: Avoid misrepresenting or appropriating Indigenous cultures. - Open-Ended Discussions: Encourage students to ask questions and share their perspectives. By following these guidelines, educators can create a meaningful and enriching learning experience for their students. #ScienceCurriculum #Manitoba #CulturalSensitivity #RespectfulStorytelling

It's unproductive to complete a master's degree and not produce articles from your research. The reality is, scholars prefer reading articles over thesis. Let's make every effort to publish our work, so we can share knowledge and help close the gaps in our field. #Lis #librarian #research

"Why do schools/colleges/unis need a #librarian anyway?" I had the pleasure of delivering #academic skills sessions for science students, focusing on how to effectively use the #library catalogue and e-resources. The students in these cohorts were some of the most engaged and attentive I've had the privilege of working with, and I was especially impressed by their thought-provoking questions, such as whether citations in other languages need to be translated. Sessions like these are vital for empowering students to fully utilize library services and refine their research skills. As #academiclibrarians, we play a crucial role in guiding students through the #research process and helping them develop key competencies. Without the expertise and support of research professionals, these essential skills would not be adequately taught. Academic librarians, particularly in further education, are invaluable resources in fostering knowledge acquisition and ensuring students' progression to #university. To level the playing field, I believe it's imperative that all academic institutions employ skilled information professionals to support and enhance student learning. #FE #HE #collegelibrarian #academiclibrarian #research #libraries

During a poetry activity in her classroom, Teacher Ariel made a striking observation: her students are increasingly concerned about natural disasters and climate change. This shift in focus reflects a growing awareness among young minds about the future of our planet, as they grapple with the implications of environmental chaos. Ariel's experience underscores the urgent need for enhanced climate education in our schools. As highlighted in various studies (Moreno, 2021; Bugdayci & Cetinkaya, 2022), integrating environmental topics into the curriculum is not just beneficial but essential. Students who engage with climate-related content are better equipped to understand and navigate the complexities of these issues, fostering a generation that is not only aware but also proactive in seeking solutions. By raising awareness and inspiring action, we can cultivate a sense of responsibility and resilience in the face of environmental challenges. Students will be empowered to envision and work towards a sustainable future. Let’s commit to integrating climate education into our teaching practices and inspire the next generation to take meaningful action for our planet.
