Come on guys, can’t you do the basics when you post a contract and state the rate? If it’s rubbish then at least stand behind the offering and stop wasting so many people’s time. I share job posts daily to help my connections, all are project related roles but I’m starting to resist sharing these poorly worded fishing posts as I believe that’s all they are… I saw a post yesterday which was hybrid with 3 days in the office and no location stated… honestly, these are basic bits of info. Why clog your inbox up with CVs of professionals who you cannot place? All contractors want to know is what, where, when and how much…. If it’s a fit they’ll be in touch and you can have a much healthier list of applications saving everyone’s time

It’s not your fault but it is your problem. You need to own it. Nobody else is going to do it for you! Yes, I get that challenges arise from circumstances beyond your control. However, the reality is: It’s not your fault, but it’s always your problem. ?? A client pulled a contract offer from us last week ?? A candidate managed to completely fluff a final stage when they were as good as starting next Monday ?? A project has been put on hold and our contractor let go All of the above happened in the last few working days. None of the above occurred through actions I have taken or not taken, but they sure as hell are my problem to own. Now it is my reaction to the problem that will dictate the outcome. #responsibility #reaction #ownership #fault #recruitment *real time footage of me trying to work out what to do now!

Building a job search into your weekly schedule requires dedication, consistency, and effective time management. If you’re serious about changing jobs, it’s important to treat the job search process like a job itself. Over the coming days, I’ll suggest some practical pointers on how to incorporate your job search into your weekly routine: 1. Set Clear Goals and Priorities Identify Your Targets: What type of job are you looking for? What industries or roles interest you most? Defining clear targets helps you stay focused and avoid wasting time on unaligned opportunities. Action: Write down your job search objectives for the week. For example, “Apply to 3 jobs,” “Reach out to 5 networking contacts,” or “Update LinkedIn profile.” 2. Dedicate Specific Time Blocks for Job Searching Create a Job Search Schedule: Treat job searching as a priority by blocking off specific time slots each week for this task. This could be in the mornings before work, during lunch breaks, or in the evening, depending on your availability. Action: Dedicate at least 5-10 hours per week to your job search. Split this into manageable chunks, like: Monday: Research companies and update resume Wednesday: Apply to new job listings and reach out to connections Friday: Follow up on applications, schedule informational interviews Read on tomorrow. YOU ARE BUSY. Your job search is coming in at 5th place. "Looking for a job, is a full time job" this is what I used to say, now? Let the systems do the work. If you are looking for work while you are in a job, or redundant, but wondering how you found time to work after a massive list of 'stuff' that has appeared on your list since you stopped working. The kids, the DIY, the in laws. Use boolean search to find the right jobs (searching for project manager and keep getting construction or IT PM, use boolean principles "speech marks" and -words -you -don't -want -to -see). This will get you the EXACT type of jobs you want to see in your inbox, not the 100's of random 'other' jobs. Need help? Get in touch.

Think your resume is enough to land your next construction gig? Think again. In this field, “Lead Superintendent” can mean anything from managing a critical data center build to overseeing a luxury residential project. A resume doesn’t capture those differences. But your portfolio does. A strong portfolio shows exactly what you’ve done and the regulations you have experience with. It’s where you highlight your best projects and demonstrate your ability to handle complexity. If you’re early in your career, start building that portfolio now. Document your work, focus on the details, and attach it to your resume. When the next opportunity comes up, your portfolio will set you apart.

We have been working on a few contract jobs over the past couple of weeks and one thing I have noticed is the type variety of responses that I get from contractors. When I send a message for a contract role, I will always highlight the following: Skills needed Industry/Project Duration Location Rate My view is when it comes to contracting role, share the details upfront and that will spark a conversation. The majority of people are incredibly polite with their response. However, when I receive a response scoffing at the rate and taking offence that I have reached out with a rate that is "below" them. Then those people will immediately be off my future list for contract roles. The contracting market is built on making connections, being rude and obnoxious won't help you built connections.
