University of Michigan students research ideas to reduce the risk of ships navigating through ice-laden seas. ?Working with Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD) through the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Naval Engineering Education Consortium (NEEC) Program, this 3-year research answered fundamental questions on how to design a ship to operate in icy conditions. 12 undergraduate students from different departments within the University of Michigan College of Engineering performed these experiments at the Aaron Friedman Marine Hydrodynamics Lab and presented their results at distinguished conferences and are pursuing internships and the SMART Scholarship to start off their careers. https://lnkd.in/e6GegYhS #navalSTEM, #SMARTopportunity #DoDInnovates #STEMeducation #DoDFutures #CarderockROCKS
This has been an incredibly fun project to work on with Professor Kevin Maki and the many undergraduate students over the past two years. All of the staff here at the MHL are excited to see this year's cohort continue this research!
