What’s the paper about? Emerging cloud-centric networks connect edge clouds to large-scale datacenters, balancing complex demands for high availability, isolation, fault tolerance, security, and energy efficiency. In this landscape, Live Migration (LiMi) plays a critical role by enabling seamless application mobility across the edge-to-cloud continuum while maintaining these requirements. Our paper provides: ? A comprehensive survey of recent advancements democratizing LiMi for a wide range of scenarios and network environments, covering both virtual machines (VMs) and containers. ? An analysis of LiMi’s technical underpinnings and optimization techniques. ? A taxonomy of traffic redirection methods synthesized from existing literature to tackle connection handover challenges. ? Insights into technical challenges and future research directions in this vital technology. ??
