To mark International Women's Day 2024, our Head of Consumer Goods Practice, Emily Robson, Consumer Goods Specialist, shared her thoughts with Drapers, along with other industry experts, on the topic of female representation at Executive level. "There has been an increase in female applicants during our executive searches, including for positions that were previously dominated by men." “It’s something we’re certainly making progress on – a prime example being?Mamas & Papas’ recent appointment of Sarah Ashby as CFO." “Finance, historically, has been heavily male orientated, so her announcement has created significant positive publicity and assisted in breaking down barriers.” "However, true change takes time and must be addressed at all levels." "If we only measure equality at the c-suite level, it creates short-term and superficial representation, which can naturally regress over time if we don't take care at each stage of the pipeline." You’ve heard of the “glass ceiling,” but what about the “glass cliff?” That was the focus of a recent discussion with Catalyst—a nonprofit dedicated to creating inclusive workplaces for women. The glass cliff refers to the phenomenon where women professionals, especially women of color, are often promoted to leadership posts when companies are underperforming, placing them in precarious positions.
