This Veterans Day, we honor the strength and sacrifice of our servicemen and women. For many veterans, the battle doesn't end on the field; some continue to face the challenges from traumatic brain injury (TBI) long after they return home. In fact, it’s estimated that over 400,000 service members were diagnosed with TBI between 2000 and 2021. Let’s come together to raise awareness and advocate for the care and resources that our veterans need to thrive. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/dtRCiWM #VeteransDay #ThankYouVeterans #TBIawareness

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month More than 485K service members have reported TBIs since 2000. Special Operations Forces are at an increased risk of brain injuries. A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a blow or jolt to the head that disrupts the normal function of the brain. The severity of the TBI is determined at the time of the injury and may be classified as mild, moderate, severe, or penetrating. Symptoms of TBI can range from mild to severe and can be physical, cognitive, and emotional. ? A TBI is a blow or jolt to the head that disrupts the normal function of the brain. ? Major blows to the head don’t cause all TBIs. Some less obvious causes could be whiplash from car accidents, blast waves, blows to the body that jolts the head, and contact sports. ? More severe TBIs can lead to mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, and sleeping problems. ? If you leave it untreated, TBI can lead to long-term complications. It is critical to seek medical care for TBI as soon as possible. #TFDSOF?#TFD?#SOF?#HEAL?#MISSION?#PURPOSE?#FOCUS?#MILITARY?#ACTIVEDUTY?#VETERAN?#SERVE?#FAMILY?#WARFIGHTER

This National Brain Injury Month, NCIRE brings awareness to Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) which impacts the Veteran Community. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines a traumatic brain injury (TBI) as "a disruption in the normal function of the brain that can be caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head, or penetrating head injury." TBI is not a genetic or degenerative disease. Most TBI cases are caused from vehicle crashes, falls, sports-related injuries, and explosion or impacts from military service. Due to improved diagnostics and increased vigilance, there are now statistics on military TBI rates. The Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) reported nearly 414,000 TBIs among U.S. service members worldwide between 2000 and late 2019. More than 185,000 Veterans who use VA for their health care have been diagnosed with at least one TBI. The majority of those TBIs were classified as mild. TBI and its associated co-morbidities are also a significant cause of disability outside of military settings. Learn More: https://lnkd.in/eQUMyBU https://lnkd.in/dtRCiWM

?? "Psychedelics are not a panacea, but they offer a complementary approach, especially for those veterans who find little solace in existing treatments." ?? Studies have shown that when administered under controlled conditions and coupled with appropriate support, these compounds can lead to significant and sustained reductions in PTSD symptoms. Despite this promise, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has yet to provide official guidance on discussing or recommending psychedelics.? The urgency for action is clear. Utah leaders have the opportunity to create a framework for the safe and effective use of these treatments!
