On September 27th, Billy Britt III’s 65-year-old family business was literally swept away by a hurricane. Three lifetimes of memories and their means of survival washed away/destroyed. While this blow would’ve rightfully been enough to end an era for most companies and lesser humans, B&T ain’t going out like that. While the response and support of the industry has been incredible to witness and be a part of (and certainly helps), it’s the m-f’n resiliency, tenacity, and will to live of this industry legacy that has this scrappy team getting up from the mat. Lee Meeler, Vice President of Claims for Hagerty, shared his thoughts with Bloomberg for their report "Los Angeles Was a Car Collector’s Paradise. Now 6,000 Are Gone." From the story: “We’re treating this as a catastrophic event, much like we’ve used in previous wildfire and hurricane seasons,” says Meeler. Hagerty has installed a dedicated fire support team to manage members’?online claims, calls and emails. The company has also set up a claims support center at its garage club and storage facility in Van Nuys to handle the anticipated volume. The priority is to issue checks quickly, within a few days of some of the early reported claims. “The resounding feedback from members following hurricanes Helene and Milton was that Hagerty was first to get them a check in hand."
