The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has released a comprehensive report on how school districts utilized the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds during the COVID-19 pandemic. By the end of the 2021-22 school year, nearly $60 billion was allocated to address students’ academic, social, and emotional needs, and to maintain school operations. Approximately 80% of the funds were used for direct student support, such as summer school and tutoring. The remaining 20% went towards health and safety measures, including improved ventilation and hiring school psychologists. The report highlights the difficulty in assessing the long-term impact of these expenditures due to the variety of initiatives undertaken and the short time frame since implementation. #Education #COVID19 #ESSER #GAOReport #SchoolFunding #StudentSupport

New Hampshire's school districts grapple with a $16.4 million gap in special education funding. The state's Special Education Aid can only fulfill 67.5% of the necessary funds. Despite a $33.9 million allocation for 2025, districts have requested $50.3 million, highlighting a substantial shortfall. Without urgent legislative action, local districts might bear the deficit, potentially affecting taxpayers and the quality of education for students with special needs. #EducationFunding #SpecialEducation #NHSchools #BudgetShortfall #LegislativeAction #TaxpayerImpact #StudentSupport
