With Donald J. Trump now back in the Whitehouse, its very likely that abolishing the US import de minimis threshold of €800 for low value consignments will be one of his first actions on the subject of 'customs tariffs'. This will change the clearance process for parcel deliveries into the US, specifically from China. US Import systems processing parcel data need to prepare for enhanced regulatory screening, as much as simply paying extra import taxes. #tariffs #customsclearance #elections

I will say this: not the politics but the policies shape our future, and understanding their impacts is critical. Whether you’re in tourism, other sectors /markets reach out to Julien Colombie (for France) or myself for broader insights on scenario planning and forecasting. We do a lot + assess various outcomes and modeling impacts across sectors. I am focused on tourism impacts, and don’t even pretend to know all sectors but I do know a few OE / TE economists (400 infact across the org… looking at you Aaron Goldring (!) who can likely help any sector you work in.
Following Trump's reelection, we have adopted our "Limited Trump" scenario as our new baseline forecast, which assumes: - Personal tax cuts extensions under the 2017 tax law - Higher spending levels - Immigration reduction - Most importantly, targeted tariffs on China, Mexico, Canada and the EU As a result, we expect that the US effective tariff rate will rise to levels last seen in early 1970s, with large impact on key sectors such as steel or motor vehicles imports from the EU. Our chief US economist Ryan Sweet will review the near and longer term impact of the US election in a webinar next week - feel free to register here: https://lnkd.in/drAJds-S

Steelmakers warn ministers that UK faces dumping risk Britain’s largest steelmakers have stepped up warnings that the UK risks becoming a dumping ground for low-cost imports unless the government speeds up the introduction of a new carbon border tax. Currently, the UK government plans to introduce the levy in 2027, one year after the European Union brings in its own tax. The industry fears this will lead other countries to divert their high-emission steel — previously destined for the bloc — to Britain: https://lnkd.in/eeSZ9kn4 #steelmaking #industry #ukmfg

What are the impacts of a Trump presidency on CRE? ?? - The policy implications from a second Trump presidency are expected to affect US commercial real estate through curbed immigration, tax cuts and increased tariffs. - Looser fiscal policy is likely to provide a tailwind to occupier performance in the near term as we now expect stronger GDP growth, while the prospects of tariffs could lead to some goods stockpiling, which would be a positive for warehouse demand. Curbed immigration will possibly add to costs in the hospitality, manufacturing and construction segments. Increased tariffs will impact industrial and retail in the long run as higher costs are passed on to consumers. #Election #Trump #realestate

Tariffs NEVER work in the long term. It only raises costs for end consumers who are forced to pay more for no benefit. And those extra taxes? They are swallowed and wasted by governments. Instead, the government should subsidize to match subsidies provided by others. That will force the government to ration its money to benefit people, instead of grabbing more money under the guise of protecting people. #protectionism #taxes #subsidies

An interesting look at how Trumps win could affect Europe. The second Trump presidency could strain U.S.-EU relations with high tariffs on European and Chinese imports, embolden right-wing European leaders, and weaken Europe’s security strategy by reducing U.S. support for Ukraine. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this. ? #trump #usaelection #election #usaeuroperelationship #industry #imports
