?? In the academic year 2021/22, South Korea welcomed approximately 4,300 U.S. students, establishing itself as one of the top 10 preferred destinations. Beginning with modest numbers in the early 2000s, the influx of U.S. students has progressively grown. ?? https://lnkd.in/gQfSDPwm This growth reflects South Korea's improved educational infrastructure and proactive efforts to attract international students. In detail, factors such as the impact of K-culture, enhancements in the quantity and quality of English-medium instruction courses, and the expansion of English-taught programs have likely been influential. Although there was a significant drop in numbers due to the pandemic, the swift recovery indicates a robust and enduring interest from U.S. students. Notably, South Korea demonstrated the smallest difference between pre- and post-pandemic figures among the top destinations. ??

A great summit! Learning more about how to best guide my clients in prioritizing their attention for the remainder of the year, meeting with congress, and connecting with industry colleagues always makes this a truly valuable annual trip to DC. Especially important take aways: 1. Manufacturers need to be aware of EPR rulemaking that may impact them as early as 2025. 2. Importers need to be ready for e-filing of their certificates starting in January 2025 and now can take advantage by participating in the expanded Beta testing program that CPSC has just announced. #JPMA
Thanks to all who attended the 2024 JPMA Summit in Washington, D.C.! We thoroughly enjoyed learning, connecting, and collaborating with everyone and can't wait to do it again next year!

In the latest episode of Experiences of International Education, Guy Perring, Regional Director Asia at Etio, tells us how his international education experience started as an exchange student of American Literature at the University of North Carolina, and eventually as English language teacher in Japan. This experience took him to the British Council, where he went to lead on education promotion in Malaysia in the very early days of TNE expansion in the region. Guy tells us of his current work with the International Student Barometer in Asia sharing insights into the international student experience across the region, and stressing the importance of familiarising local communities about the benefits of international education. He also points to the trends towards the regionalisation of internationalisation, increasingly observable in Asia, and how from an originally Western concept international education is now being appropriated and approached in different ways in different countries… and he shares the memorable experience of taking a Times Higher Education reporter around different TNE operations in Malaysia at a time when TNE was barely on the map in the UK, and observing the interest that the resulting piece received in the sector. 'Malaysia is incredibly welcoming, much more welcoming to international students than perhaps the UK and Australia can be...[but] there's still work they need to do and this is where they can learn lessons from the best practice in the student experience... from the UK in terms of the infrastructure, the whole processes of arrival that the UK does so well and Australia does particularly well as well.' 'for a while internationalization was either a Western concept, or it was something that was a kind of unified one concept that could be the same around the world... But I think different countries now are approaching it in different ways... there's greater regionalization, and there'll be different internationalization strategies in each country, which will very much differ to the context in where they are' 'The aspect of community integration, I think is really critical...the community needs to be, I don't know if education is the right word, but certainly be introduced to the idea of the benefits the international student can bring to their community' Thanks Guy for sharing your experiences and insights. https://lnkd.in/e2XW9GiT Later this week I have the pleasure to speak with Martijn van de Veen. We will focus on international student recruitment, the role of agents, and the work of ICEF in this space. #TNE #intled #InternatonalStudentExperience
