What a weekend! I took the kiddos on a road trip to Asheville (4 hours from Durham). Of course, none of us got any sleep. But it was a weekend to remember...keep reading! I was able to meet with a few families we have helped with emergency child care and I brought our tote bags filled with toys to our child care volunteers in Asheville. Look at the photos! We also celebrated the holiday giving spirit with over 500 families impacted by the recent Helene disaster at our "Families Together Holiday Celebration" event that we co-hosted with two local partners in Asheville including Asheville City Schools and Hive Mind Therapy. Great photos! Absolutely amazing event! Families walked into the lobby to enjoy freshly baked cookies donated from Old Europe Pastries, endless free comfort kits (donated by Lutheran Disaster Response Carolinas and Hive Mind Therapy), and continued to walk through the lobby and into a gymnasium to see a room bustling with 36+ local businesses offering fun-filled activities for the kids. The energy was pure joy! Kids were getting their face painted, running around playing sports, coloring, singing, dancing with holla hoops -- endless fun! And there was a DJ! It was far beyond what I expected. Above all, families were happy. There was joy. We accomplished the purpose -- to bring joy and comfort to hundreds of families impacted by the Helene disaster. Families enjoyed a holiday meal catered by My Food Experience, and walked away with tons of FREE toys, Christmas presents, 3-4 comfort kits, and a handful of children's books to enjoy this holiday season. It was pure joy for everyone! Thank you to all the volunteers, the sponsors, the donors, the organizers, and all the families who came!!
