The incentives for reshoring under #USMCA are so powerful that the Mexican peso has strengthened even in the face of a strong USD & even as AMLO’s #Morena Party leads #Mexico into more overt #Socialism. With reasonable pro-market reforms & political liberalization, Mexico could boom. But that would require a revolution via the ballot box like we’re seeing in Argentina & no such candidate is in the running for the 2024 Presidential election. Perhaps the people of Mexico will have a change of heart in the run-up to the next election in 2030.
Mexico’s president said he will propose guaranteeing people pensions equal to their full salaries at the time they retire, something done by no other country, not even those much richer than Mexico. It was among a raft of 20 constitutional reforms that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has almost no hope of getting passed in the eight months he has left in office, but which could be part of a bid to attract voters in the June 2 presidential elections. WEP... Windfall Elimination Provision Have you ever heard of that? I've spoken to tons of educators that will be directly impacted by this....and they had no idea. The WEP affects how Social Security calculates your retirement benefit. When could you be affected? If you receive a retirement or disability pension from an employer that didn’t withhold Social Security taxes or if you qualify for Social Security retirement or disability benefits from other jobs where you did pay taxes. The maximum monthly reduction you could face is $587. Who is exempt? - You have 30 or more years of substantial earnings under Social Security. - You're employed by a non-profit organization. - You're a federal employee first hired after December 31, 1983. - Your only pension comes from railroad employment. If you're concerned about being impacted by WEP, click this link to find out how much your benefit might be reduced! https://lnkd.in/gwQSP6fX

You Earned It, You Keep It Act Currently, only individuals who make less than $25,000 and married couples filing jointly who make less than $32,000 don't pay taxes on their Social Security benefits. Social Security Act was passed on the premise that retirees needed to SUPPLEMENT their income in retirement when they could not work as many hours. It was never intended to be their sole source of income. Full benefits have continuously been delayed by increasing the age requirements, and then taxes are clawed back on those benefits unless poverty levels of "combined" income are met. Simply put, the tax on social security is a second bite on your income AFTER the government withheld part of your earned income throughout your wage-earning years. Those funds were intended to be held in trust for withdrawal at retirement age. Therefore you are taxed on money already withheld from your wages. You Earned It, You Keep It Act simply restores the system to its original intent, supplemental income over what retirees earn in retirement. Don't allow Congress to keep more of your hard earned money than is fair. https://lnkd.in/gruftNdc

And on a completely different note ... Watching Chancellor Rachel Reeves explaining herself yesterday morning on Breakfast TV was like watching and listening to a robot. How easy it is to blame a huge black hole in the economy on the previous government when her spending plans account for more than half of that black hole ! To take the £300 winter fuel payment away from pensioners (worth £1.5 billion) means tested or not, shows how mean the ‘party for the people’ can be. Using it as an excuse to partly fund a £9+ billion pay rise for the public sector is outrageous when she made the political decision on how much to offer them. Members of Unions striking and demanding pay rises aren’t being subjected to means testing like individual pensioners are, nor can pensioners go on strike to stand up for themselves. Why didn’t the chancellor partly fund her public sector pay rises with the huge amount of money being used to keep thousands of immigrants in hotels and accomodation all over the country (£8 million a day) ? The Labour Party have had 14 years to come up with a plan to deal with the daily influx of immigration in boats across the channel, not a mention of that since the day they took office. Apparently we are paying over £500 million to the French government to stop the boats leaving France, that’s not had any effect so far. It would be far better and more economical to put a UK embassy in Calais or Dunkirk to process immigrants and asylum seekers there. Then they can be accepted or refused before they hop on a boat across the channel, or in the back of a truck. It’s obvious that for many pensioners the Winter Fuel Payment means the difference between existing or living when it gets cold in the winter. People are taxed and pay national insurance all their lives. We are told how important it is to save for the future and our pension, yet most pensioners are now paying tax on the pension they receive, because personal allowances have not risen since 2021/2022. The Chancellor said “I will take the difficult decisions to restore economic stability”. We know now that means taking the decision to eat or heat away from the easy target pensioners. She should swap her life in number 11 to live as a pensioner for a few months, she might see then how tough life is for these people living on a state pension.? We were all lied to before the election when none of the politicians would give a straight answer on the actual state of the economy, even though they all knew how bad it was. Both the OBR and the IFS had warned politicians about the state of the country’s books, and we were warned times would get tough, but we were not warned about the scale of the problem. Rachel Reeves should re-instate the winter fuel payment for all pensioners, or resign. It certainly wasn’t in the Labour Party election manifesto, I wonder why ? #rachelreeves #ukgovernment #pensions #makeitindesign #thegrimreaper

?? "The lazy and entitled public sector is about to get much, much worse", says Matthew Lyn ?? "Many enjoy #inflation-protected pay rises. Their #pension rights are too often gold-plated. Annual holidays are generous, there is extra #leave for every event imaginable, and the right to #workfromhome as often as you want seems to be completely sacrosanct. The #publicsector was already entitled and over-privileged. And yet, it may be about to get much, much worse. The public sector and its political cheerleaders in the #labourparty are playing the taxpaying public for fools – and it is getting to the point where it is hard to understand why anyone would bother working in the private, competitive #economy any more. We already know that they won’t be spending?£28bn a year on the “green #energy transition”,?that they won’t raise #corporationtax, and that they won’t embark on wholesale nationalisation of #industry. With so many pledges getting ditched, it comes as a slight surprise to learn that there is something that the Labour leader Sir Keir #Starmer and his shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves actually might like to do." #SocialSecurity reserves will run out in 2033, as trustees for the program described in their latest annual update released in May. What does that mean? Even though Social Security won't essentially go broke, the?#retirees?and others who rely on it could be seriously pinched. If Congress doesn't shore up the trust funds or make other fixes, the Social Security Administration would need to cut benefits by about 21% to match the level of payroll taxes and other revenue flowing in at that time. Higher taxes, benefit cuts, or a combination of both loom in a future scenario that is no longer all that distant. Russ Wiles explains what else might happen:
Social Security's problems aren't going away. What's it mean for your retirement benefits?
