Category 5 Hurricane Milton Hurricane Milton peaked on Monday with maximum sustained winds topping 180mph and a minimum pressure of 887mb. Milton weakened last night due to an eyewall replacement cycle. An eyewall replacement happens when the initial eye is replaced by a bigger one. This weakens hurricanes but causes hurricanes to grow in size. However, this process is completed and Mitlon has regained its category 5 status. Conditions will continue to be favorable into tonight, favoring more strengthening. On Wednesday, a combination of another eyewall replacement, dry air and wind shear should somewhat weaken Mitlon to a category 3 or 4 hurricane before landfall. Regardless of a weakening hurricane prior to landfall, Milton will produce a devastating storm surge to West Florida as the hurricane grows in size. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has provided the latest forecast, indicating that Hurricane Helene is projected to make landfall in the Florida Big Bend region late Thursday as a major hurricane. The storm is currently interacting with a frontal system over the Central Mississippi Valley, which will pull it northward toward the Gulf Coast. As Helene progresses northward, its forward motion will accelerate, resulting in a shorter duration of impacts. However, this also means that hurricane and tropical storm-force winds are expected to reach Georgia and Alabama inland regions. #HurricaneHelene
