A recent study highlights the critical role of early Tourniquet Placement (TP) for children experiencing traumatic bleeding. By analyzing data from NEMSIS, the study found that tourniquet placement, whether by bystanders, first responders, or other EMS clinicians, significantly improves patient acuity during EMS care. Tourniquets placed by bystanders or first responders prior to EMS transport arrival resulted in even higher acuity improvements. These findings underscore the importance of widespread training on early tourniquet use by bystanders and across all prehospital responder levels, aiming to empower anyone at the scene to make a life-saving difference among kids suffering extensive bleeding due to trauma. Reasons Why Men Who Present with Self-Harm Leave A&E (Emergency Department) Before Next Care Recommendations: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Donal Moynihan, Sharon Lambert, Daniel Flynn, Ella Arensman, Eugene Cassidy & James Kinahan. The Irish Psychologist, June 2024. - You’re only like a shadow in the background. They’re just walking past you. Get up and walk out. They’re not even making eye contact with you.’ (Maurice). "The themes that emerged demonstrate there are a variety of reasons for leaving the ED without receiving next care recommendations. A combination of internal and external barriers prevented the men from staying in line with medical advice. Internal barriers included negative emotions such as fear, shame, and guilt, and the associated cognitive and behavioural processes that accompany such emotions. The aspects external to the person that lead them to leave early included the impact of other patients in the waiting room, the presence of security staff, and the style of interaction employed by the clinicians."

?? When compassion meets action: 1,000 counselors and mobile medical clinics are infiltrating combat zones, all in an effort to fulfill Christ's commandments. ?? Let's break it down. 1. A massive deployment of mental health professionals and medical resources to areas desperately in need. It’s heartening to see such a giant leap towards humane care, especially in regions devastated by conflict. 2. Physical and mental health go hand in hand, and this initiative underscores that fact. By addressing both, we might finally see a more comprehensive strategy to aid those suffering in warzones. But with every grand initiative comes the reality check: ?? **Resource Management:** How sustainable are these efforts? While the immediate impact can be heartwarming, it's the long-term view we need to genuinely consider. Are there enough resources to keep it going, or is this just a fleeting gesture? ?? **Cultural Sensitivity:** Are we really respecting the local populations while storming in with our ready-made solutions, or could we be imposing our ideas in areas with very different cultural contexts? ??? **Lasting Impact:** Will these actions drive genuine peace and reform, or are we merely putting a Band-Aid on deep, systemic issues? True change requires more than temporary camps and quick fixes. Regardless of the potential pitfalls, it's undeniable that these counselors and mobile clinics offer a glimmer of hope. At the heart of it, this could be a beacon of collective human compassion in dark times. Only time will tell if these initiatives are the start of something profoundly transformative or just a passing wave of goodwill. Let's stay hopeful and critical observers. https://lnkd.in/emdgfXDV

In just over 2 weeks Abbott Point of Care are proud to be supporting the British Trauma Society ASM in Bristol. Each year, over 1 million people attend emergency departments in England and Wales with a recent head injury. About 200,000 people are admitted to hospital with a head injury every year. Most people with a head injury recover without specific or specialist intervention. Others have long-term disability or even die from associated traumatic brain or other injuries. An increasing proportion of people presenting with head injury are over 65. Many people are injured through low-level falls, which can be sustained in the context of acute illness. How can the i-Stat TBI cartridge aid medics and patients? *Objective biomarker data to help quickly clarify assessment and next steps *Potential avoidance of unnecessary CT's *Streamlined/ improved resource utilisation *Improved patient experience #abbottproud #mildtraumaticbraininjury #mTBI #britishtraumasociety
