AI seems to be the flavour of season for international investors! Companies building in the AI space are raising $$ from top investors in tech, venture capital and private equity spaces. As prominent and prolific investors in the early stage innovation economy in Canada, AI (in all its variants including machine learning, large language models, and generative AI) has a lot of prominence. But AI has always promised to completely upend everything since its early days in the 1950s. The latest cycle, unleashed barely 2 years ago with ChatGPT is now starting to show where it shines and also its limitations. The reality is that each new cycle gets overhyped, and over invested, until the famous Gartner "Trough of Dissillusionment" sets in. No where is this more apparent than how the 'Open-Vidia' duopology (OpenAI and Nvidia) have become so overfunded, that they have sucked most of the oxygen from much of the rest of tech and at valuations that couldn't be realized in many many lifetimes. As reality sets in, and tech and the economy rebalances, it is important to remember that the seeds of the next generation (in the 'Hype Cycle' ...) are being sown. Thus, I thought I'd share a podcast produced by @Google playing catch up with their #NotebookLM project, led by people like Jeff Dean. This AI Platform is going to change the way we interact with AI! It is amazing. Yesterday, I was checking my feed when I reached this post. An as a AI enthusiast, I try it at first to see if everything that was on the video was real. My first impression was, this looks very similar to Miro, a platform I love and I use every day, then I made me feel at home. My second impression was, that I was chatting with ChatGPT, another platform I use to analyze, extract, and create prompts, then I felt good. The onboarding is really easy, not only when you connect or create you account, but when the platform using a walkthrough start to showing you all the steps to start interacting with. Once the onboarding was over, I start creating a new space to analyze how powerful it was, and I got really impressed. I am designing a Career Path Framework for PMs, so I decided to add that information and start asking about what it was the meaning and what I was meaning, and it gave me important insights. I ran to show this to my wife, so we decided to create the plan for our next trip. We requested to create a plan day by day for a family of 4, including a toddler, and the answer was amazing. I can say that I have not only the plan but also the prices, websites, locations, and other amazing information. Some interesting thoughts in the inexorable march forward of each AI generation, but also the limits to where AI really shines. In terms of repurposing exisitng content, there seem to be some real value adds here - but exactly how useful this 'professional' podcast really is remains to be seen.
