We are thrilled to see NASBO member Jen Flood included in this year’s Crain Detroit Business’s 40 under 40! Congratulations, Jen, we are proud of you and all your hard work! ??
State budget director Jen Flood is one of Crain's 40 under 40 honorees. She first took an interest in public policy at Michigan State University, unsuccessfully working to defeat a 2006 ballot proposal that banned affirmative action in college admissions. At 14, her family had moved from New Haven to Romeo, a school district with higher test scores and more resources but less racial diversity.? “I went on to college and began to understand and just appreciate the differences in opportunity that my friends from both towns had,” said Flood, whose parents own a heating and cooling business. “I got interested in policy and things we can do to level the playing field and create more opportunity for all.” She has worked in and around politics and government ever since, rising to be the budget director under Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2023. She helped coordinate and shape the $82.5 billion spending plan and is working on the next one that Whitmer will propose in February. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ehdJ8XTu
