“Growing up in South Dakota, I saw firsthand the challenges farmers face. Today, I’m proud to help provide the tools and data that can make a real difference in their lives,” says Bradley Doorn. “Whether it’s a farmer, an economist, or a military analyst, if you give them the right tools, they’ll take them to places you never even thought about. That’s what excites me—seeing where they go.” We are so grateful to get to work with Bradley Doorn! ?? ??? What's it like to fly into the eye of a hurricane? ????? On the latest episode of NASA's Curious Universe podcast, ride along with NOAA Hurricane Hunter pilots and meet NASA meteorologists and data scientists using AI and open science to better understand and predict tropical cyclones... and save lives in their aftermath. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/g5jDk4rz I had a great time interviewing the NOAA Corps pilots for this one and sourcing tape from inside the P3 aircraft during Hurricane Milton. Hope you join us for the ride (and keep your seatbelt fastened... we're expecting turbulence)! Thanks to Madison Olson (Arnold), Katy Mersmann and Jamie Adkins for helping us produce this video to promote CU on NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration social media!

Can you estimate the amount of water needed on the fireline? With the Park Fire as an example, obstacles such as the highway 36 are a key strategic element where one can try and slow down the fire's progress. Reports however indicate that the fire jumped the highway near Paynes Creek. To give you an order of magnitude of the logistics required to contain the fire using water, here's the result of our critical water volume calculator. We compiled data from reports, studies and carried out our own experimental fires to establish critical water coverage levels for different land cover types and weather parameters. The result: it would take a tenth of an olympic pool to contain the fire over the more than 5 miles near Paynes Creek. Eight of the 10 largest wildfires in the state's history have occurred in the last five years - and the Park Fire is still raging. We wish all personnel on site safe operations! "While skepticism remains high, the latest mysterious sightings and governmental disclosures in the past 24 hours reignite our sense of wonder and anticipation for what new alien-related revelations might soon unfold." - NASA's Ongoing Search for Alien Life: NASA scientists predict strong indications of life beyond Earth within the next decade, with definitive evidence expected within 20 to 30 years. The agency is actively involved in missions such as the Mars rover scheduled for 2020 to search for signs of past life and a mission to Europa to study its habitability and potential for alien life. - UFO Sightings and Investigations: Recent UFO sightings, such as the one over New York's LaGuardia Airport in March 2024, have garnered significant attention. These sightings, often recorded by credible sources like commercial flight passengers and military personnel, are being investigated to determine their origins, with many cases remaining unexplained. - NASA's UAP Study Initiative: NASA has initiated a scientific study into Unidentified Aerial Phenomena

New blog alert ?? This #EarthDay ??, check out three ways SERVIR Global, a joint USAID and NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration initiative, is strengthening water security. Timely and accurate earth observation data can help address climate-related challenges of water scarcity, deteriorating water quality, and extreme weather events. Better data on water quantity and quality can also help people in their day-to-day lives. For example, data can help farmers know how much groundwater is available to them, pastoralists guide their herds to water bodies, and help communities know if their water is safe to drink. ?? https://lnkd.in/eBd-4dxs

Developing new technology is tough, and pushing it to market prematurely can lead to failure. NASA created Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), a 9-level scale to assess the maturity of your technology, helping to identify development needs and risks. From basic principles (TRL 1) to proven systems (TRL 9), TRLs guide you through the journey. Widely used by NASA, the Department of Defense (DoD), the Department of Energy (DoE), and others, TRLs are crucial for government contracts and innovation. Don’t get stuck in the “Valley of Death” - let our experts help you succeed! Learn more about TRLs here: https://buff.ly/4cG2dtM

It is important to understand history when forming views on things...
The McDonnell Douglas Delta Clipper (DC-X) was a groundbreaking 39-foot reusable rocket built primarily from commercially available components. It underwent testing by the Department of Defense (DoD) from 1993 and later by NASA starting in 1995. Despite its innovative approach, the project faced funding challenges and shifting priorities within NASA. Its final test in 1996 ended in failure when a landing gear malfunction caused the rocket to tip over and catch fire, leading to its discontinuation. Although the program ended, the DC-X paved the way for modern reusable rocket technologies, inspiring advancements seen in today's aerospace industry.
