Today is National Cancer Survivors Day, and we're celebrating the courage, resilience and triumphs of survivors like Olivia, who inspire us with their incredible strength and positivity. Olivia was diagnosed with stage IV alveolar rhabodmyosarcoma in 2019 when she was only 9 years old. Olivia endure 2 surgeries, 66 weeks chemo and 28 rounds of proton radiation therapy, all while keeping a positive attitude, even during the hardest moments. Today, Olivia is cancer-free. Now is the perfect time to rally behind kids like Olivia, whose stories remind us why we do what we do. Here's how you can get involved: Plan an event: Organize a virtual or in-person gathering, neighborhood walk or social media challenge to support the OliviaStrong Foundation, Inc. Share Olivia’s Journey: Inspire others by sharing Olivia’s story, or your own, on social media and through personal messages. People connect deeply with stories of hope and triumph. Set a Fundraising Goal: Challenge yourself to raise funds that directly contribute to the lifesaving mission of the OliviaStrong Foundation, Inc. https://lnkd.in/e3-PaTht

Fundraisers abound. I know this. So I will keep this short. I'm celebrating the work of the late great Jessica Morris who set up OurBrainBank for Glioblastoma whilst she was battling and then dying from it because it needs to turn - she she put it "from terminal to treatable. Terminal to treatable. Think on that. The most deadly brain cancer must be beaten. And it can be. Jessica believed this and I do too. This weekend is the third anniversary of her death and thanks to her family, especially her husband Ed Pilkington and her children Felix B. Pilkington Tess Pilkington and Emma Pilkington who have all swung into action on her behalf, and thanks to colleagues at OBB including Kelli Duprey Martha Wilkie Simon Matthews Jake Arnold-Forster Andy Coulson and Fiona Thorne. And, I hope you. Because if you can help me complete the final third of my fundraiser on the third anniversary that would be, well wonderful. And if you can repost this to say you have done, well, even better. Thank you not from my brain but my heart. ?? #ourbrainbank #gliobastoma #jessicamorris

12 years ago, I ran my first half-marathon for St. Jude in Nashville. At the time, I did it for selfish reasons. My college would cover the race entry cost, and I could feel accomplished officially running a half-marathon. Four weeks ago, I went to visit the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital campus as a St. Jude partner with Shaw Industries. I heard patient stories that started in fear and ended with hope. I saw parents transform from helpless to supported. I heard some of the smartest minds on the planet exude purpose and humility. All of these stories were immersed in gratitude and generosity. 7 months from today, I am going to run my first St. Jude Memphis Marathon with the Shaw Floors team. I am going to raise $1,750 and am looking for other St. Jude heroes like you to make that happen, so that we can empower the awesome work being done at St. Jude to kick cancer in the teeth. I have not one, but two challenges for you: 1. Give at least a $7 donation today with this link (https://lnkd.in/eVfspqzs). Why $7? Because it’s a comfortably low number and today is May 7th and the race is December 7th. Fun fact, $1,750 / 7 = 250 which leads me to… 2. Message 3 friends to ask them give $7 as well. Join as both a giver and an advocate and collectively raise $28 to punch cancer in the face. If you do this, not only will you be fueling a mission that matters in Memphis, but you'll be helping children all over the world (St. Jude shares all their research for free — they focus on the cure more than credit). “No child should die in the dawn of life” — Danny Thomas, Founder of St. Jude. Today, you can join me in making that more than a convicting quote, but a reality for future generations. Let’s go!?

As the May 2024 Pittsburgh Marathon approaches, it coincides with the second anniversary of my diagnosis with a horrid cancer called Carcinosarcoma mixed Mullerian Tumor. When I heard the words 'you have cancer,' it was devastating. Life suddenly halted, and the glass that was once half full seemed to drain to emptiness. I was trapped in two opposing time zones: one consumed by fear, where time stood still, and the other rushing towards an uncertain finish line I wasn't ready to cross. Cancer is a landscape of emotional dualities: despair battling hope, crudeness versus grace, ugliness confronting beauty. Despite the overwhelming challenges, I endeavored to start each day with a positive mindset and end it grateful for the beauty and joy still present in my life. Much of this resilience stemmed from the simple acts of kindness from family and friends, reminding me that I mattered and that we would navigate this journey together. Today, I stand before you as a survivor, grateful for the incredible support I received from UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital and their Foundation. Their tireless efforts in raising awareness for underresourced women's cancers have been instrumental in my recovery. Please donate to the Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation to support this vital cause. Together, we can ensure that others facing similar battles have access to the care and support they need to overcome cancer's challenges. Let's make a difference in women's lives by fighting this disease. https://lnkd.in/ezMmN3su

As you may or may not know, for the last few years, I've been saddling up and riding 200 kilometres over 2 days to help raise funds for cancer research here in WA. What you might not know is that every 30 minutes—every time you hear the sound of winning cash on breakfast radio, every half-hour traffic report, twice between recess and lunch—an Aussie is diagnosed with melanoma. For those who catch it early, the prognosis is decent. But for those with advanced cases, it becomes a daunting 50/50 chance of survival. I’d bet on red or black at the casino, but I’d never want to face those odds with my life. Ten years ago, that survival rate was an overwhelming 10%. The difference your donations make is profound. 90% of the people diagnosed with melanoma 10 years ago aren’t here anymore. Now, those diagnosed every half hour have a much better chance of survival, thanks to the research and lifesaving machines your donations help fund. You’re helping save lives. If you can spare it, please donate.?Let’s get those odds even better! Donate this month and you can even claim it back at tax time. Get those fat stacks back, baby—donate what you can. https://lnkd.in/gBqwCwaJ

When we learned that NPR’s StoryCorps was coming to Columbia, we knew right away whose story needed to be told. Tamekia Hunter Ross is our law firm’s client intake manager. For half of the 12 years we’ve been working together, she has been battling Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. In fact, this week, Tamekia had her 85th chemotherapy treatment! Through it all, Tamekia has worked full-time, raised wonderful children, and made it her mission to help other “BREASTies” through founding a charity, writing a book, and hosting many a fundraiser. Here is BSM partner, Kathleen McDaniel (left), interviewing Tamekia (right) for StoryCorps about her journey and about the fact that black women are less likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer than white women, and black women are about 41% more likely to die from the disease. ABOUT STORYCORPS Founded in 2003 by Dave Isay, StoryCorps has given more than half a million Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs, in towns and cities in all 50 states, the chance to record interviews about their lives. The organization preserves the recordings in its archive at the Library of Congress, the largest single collection of human voices ever gathered, and shares select stories with the public through StoryCorps’ weekly podcast, NPR broadcasts, animated shorts, digital platforms and best-selling books. These powerful human stories reflect the vast range of American experiences, wisdom and values. They engender empathy and connection and remind us how much more we have in common than not. #BSMMovingLawForward #TeamTamekia #WeAreFaithStrong

Approximately 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Black women in the U.S. are about 40% more likely to die from breast cancer than White women, despite having similar rates of diagnosis. This disparity is largely due to differences in access to quality healthcare, early detection, and treatment options. At CSA, we proudly partner with Susan G. Komen for our annual Breast Cancer Walk because we believe in making a meaningful impact in the fight against breast cancer, a disease that disproportionately affects our community. As a social justice organization, we are committed to addressing health inequities and advocating for equal access to care, education, and support. This walk is more than just a fundraiser—it's a social justice movement that brings awareness to the challenges faced by those in underserved communities. This year marks our 8th year walking with Susan G. Komen, and we are dedicated to continuing the fight against breast cancer, advocating for change, and supporting those affected by this disease. Together, we walk for hope, awareness, and equity. Please consider joining our team or donating. https://lnkd.in/gheCshEt

Dear Friends! I do understand that this is not the right place, but the need for help forced me to do it.... The birth of a child is a divine gift, a moment of pure joy that transforms lives. Zidan's family (a family close to me) experienced this joy two years ago when they welcomed him into the world with open arms and hearts filled with hope. However, when life should be full of happy moments and discovering the world through the eyes of a child, a grim news has shadowed their smiles: Zidan has been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. In these challenging times, faith and hope are with us, but the support of the community can make a huge difference too. The medical expenses required for Zidan’s treatment are overwhelming and far exceed the family's means. In three months, little Zidan has undergone four surgeries, six general anesthesia sessions, and three chemotherapy cycles. To begin a treatment that offers him more than a 10% chance of survival in Boston or Texas, Zidan's family needs $400,000. We count on your generosity and compassion to give Zidan the chance for a normal childhood, where he can grow and enjoy life as every child deserves. www.helpzidan.com Transfer options: -GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/13ddfffa (please be careful with typos, add a zero, as a 3% fee is applied) -PayPal: https://lnkd.in/dUH_q2Ks... -Revolut: @zidan2223 -Zelle: 2244224665 Donations for Zidan Perebinos who has brain cancer (caritate.md) Additional information: - https://lnkd.in/d3MQFCRH - https://lnkd.in/desw_m_Z
