As I strolled back home after a remarkable day at the Aged & Community Care Providers Association conference, memories of my father walking home with bread and a newspaper flash in my mind. But today, instead of carrying bread for my child, I carried something even more valuable—hope for a brighter future. The Agedcare sector has experienced significant transformations in recent times, but today, there was a noticeable shift in the atmosphere—a wave of hope and positivity. The sector echoed discussions on agility, strategic innovation, embracing change, and working towards a better future. I had the privilege of witnessing a phenomenal panel discussion, moderated with grace and expertise by the indomitable Tom Symondson Roald Versteeg Lucy O'Flaherty Richard de Haast Angie Robinson and Arthur Koumoukelis brought their unique perspectives, making it an unforgettable session. The key takeaways from this exceptional gathering revolve around cultivating a culture of adaptability and fostering strategic innovation. It's a call to action for all leaders and professionals in the industry to embrace change, seize opportunities, and propel the Agedcare sector into a brighter and more promising future. The Civitas 2024 conference in Detroit, MI, is just around the corner, and I’m thrilled to share some highlights that I’m particularly excited about. This year’s conference is structured around three main tracks: 1) Interoperability, National Network Standards, and Technology: This track delves into the evolving landscape of data interoperability, building on themes from previous SHIEC conferences. It will explore how we can enhance data sharing both locally and internationally. I’m especially keen to learn about the latest applications of artificial intelligence in this area. 2) Promising Partnerships: Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) and related entities have evolved beyond merely facilitating data flow between providers. They now function as health data utilities, transforming medical and related information into actionable insights for providers, policymakers, social service organizations, and more. This track will highlight successful new alliances, including those between unexpected partners, and discuss the challenges these collaborations face. I’m eager to hear about innovative partnerships and their impact. 3)Addressing Unmet Health-Related Social Needs (HRSN): This track focuses on the critical role of addressing HSRNs to improve individual health outcomes in a value-based payment environment. Effective solutions require community-centric approaches, such as community care hubs and closed-loop referrals, to ensure timely data sharing across all entities involved in supporting individuals’ health and non-health-related needs. I’m excited to see the latest developments and hear from industry leaders about future trends. I hope these topics excite you as much as they do me! With the 17th European Public Health Conference in Lisbon now behind us, we reflect on an event full of insights, shared knowledge, and collective ambition. One standout moment was the premiere of Where Health Can Thrive, an idea brought to life by the vision of Charlotte Marchandise, our Executive Director.
