Election Day is November 5th! If you are attending NAEYC’s Annual Conference, early or mail-in voting can be a perfect solution to ensure your vote is in before joining us in Anaheim. Even if aren't able to join us, it's still a good idea to have a voting plan that allows you to vote at a time that fits conveniently into your schedule! A Friendly Reminder: Plan Ahead and Vote Early If you live in a state that allows mail-in or early voting, I would encourage you to make sure to vote as soon as you can. Voting early reduces the risk of being caught off guard by new rules or technicalities that might complicate the voting process. Avoid Election Day surprises. Vote early and give yourself time to address any problems that might arise. Encourage your friends and family members to have a Voting Plan in place and to leave themselves enough time to deal with any unexpected hurdles. Democracy works when we all participate responsibly.

? Just over 24 hours left to vote ? As an active member of Chartered Accountants Ireland I would encourage all members to vote YES to the proposed amalgamation of our Institute with CPA Ireland. At a time when there is a shortage of chartered accountants and dwindling numbers of students there are a wide range of benefits for CAI members to the amalgamation. I am supporting this for a number of reasons… ? Merging into one organisation, the Institute can provide enhanced services and support for students and members with resources pooled ? Becoming the largest professional body on the Island of Ireland will provide a stronger voice to policy makers on behalf of the profession ?Obtaining dual designations (using ACA/FCA and CPA/FCPA) will be of benefit to members, especially those living abroad ? Amalgamation of both bodies, leading to a larger member population, provides an opportunity to continue to grow and develop networks both at home and abroad Voting online is open until 1pm on 14 February 2024. All members should have received an email with a link to the online ballot and voting only takes a number of seconds. ?Make sure to take part so your voice is heard and can help build a stronger base for our profession.? After speaking to a few people this week about the election I have come to the conclusion that it's not obvious how to participate mindfully in democracy. I thought about sharing how I go about deciding who to vote for in the hope it supports others to use their voting rights. Firstly, understand who the candidates in your constituency are. This will let you know which parties you need to research. Read the manifestos of the parties. Not all manifesto promises come to life BUT it will give you a guide on the principles and ideologies of the party. Any candidates that have been MPs will have a public voting record showing how they have voted on legislation. You can also research what motions and issues they have championed in the house. Speak to candidates when they knock your door, test their metal. Being an MP is a huge responsibility. Research their background and interests, what are they passionate about? I hope all this post is pro democratic, I hope it empowers at least one person to use their hard won right to vote. How do you consider your vote?

On November 5th, we have the opportunity to exercise our right to vote. If you are not a registered voter but want to be, you have time. Visit vote.gov and follow the steps outlined there. This is not a political message, as I try to steer clear of all the noise in our current political climate. However, I would agree that this upcoming election is of significant importance. When determining who to vote for, please don’t base your decision solely on what you read on LinkedIn or other social media sites or see on the nightly news. I urge you to do your own homework and draw your own conclusions. List out the values that are important to you in a leader, as well as the priorities and initiatives that you’d like to see our elected leaders undertake. Do everything you can to learn about the candidates – visiting their website may be a good start. With a little work, you will be able to align your vote with the candidates who stand for what’s important to you. Remember, your candidates may not end up being mine, and that's okay. Let’s come together with thoughtful participation in our electoral process.
