Did you know 1 in 4 children in the EU are at risk of poverty? This was the headline figure from Eurostat data. How is it in your country? As the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights' Fundamental Rights Report 2023 showed the number of children at risk of poverty and social exclusion continued to increase in 2022. High energy costs and rising inflation placed additional burdens on the households in which families with children are struggling to cover basic needs. In 1969, 57% of Native people were below the poverty line and by 2020 it had dropped to 23%. That tells you two things. One is that 23% of a population below the poverty line is gross. That's unacceptable. That's an indictment on America and its oppressions, not native people and their lack of a work ethic. But the other thing it tells is that we just shaved 34 entire percentage points off of Indigenous poverty. That's not a government intervention. That's something native people did for themselves. If you want to learn how to disrupt systemic intergenerational poverty, ask native people. They have the best track record for doing exactly that. #poverty #nativepride
