East and West High Schools are well-suited for housing 8th and 9th grade students. The classrooms and facilities provide ideal learning environments for core subjects, introductory science courses, trade programs, and more. The traditional classroom model is still effective for this age group. However, these schools lack the resources and specialized programming space necessary to prepare high school students for college and career readiness. A comprehensive high school model, focusing on grades 10-12, would better equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to graduate with not only a diploma, but a plan. Did You Know... Waterloo Schools has dedicated significant resources to enhancing the high school buildings. Over the past twenty years, the district has invested over $13M at West High School and over $14M at East High School. These investments included security camera upgrades, auditorium renovations, roofing projects, locker room additions, science classroom remodels, bleacher replacements and more.? The district's strategic facilities plan includes the use of Physical Plant Equipment Levy (PPEL) funds for ongoing maintenance and improvements at both campuses. The Castro Valley Unified School District is committed to providing all students in each of our 15 schools with a high-quality education that equips them for success in today’s workforce. To ensure that our facilities meet current and future needs, the District has embarked on a comprehensive Facilities Master Planning (FMP) process that includes strong community engagement to identify and address specific facility needs at each of our schools. On February 25, 2016, the CVUSD Board of Education approved the Facilities Master Plan, which details the necessary improvements across our sites. This plan can be viewed in its entirety online. After evaluating available funding, it was determined that an additional $123 million would be required to fulfill the outlined needs, which included enhancements in health and safety, heating and air conditioning, lighting, roofing, fields, playgrounds, classrooms, multipurpose rooms, and increased access for the community. In response, the District put forth Bond Measure G, a General Obligation Bond passed by Castro Valley voters on June 7, 2016. This bond is valued at $123 million and directly funds these critical improvements. To maintain transparency and accountability, the Board of Education appointed 12 seats on the Bond Measure G Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC), consisting of seven members and five alternates, during the September 22, 2016 board meeting. The CBOC is responsible for informing the public and the Board on the spending of bond revenues, ensuring alignment with both voter intentions and legal requirements. The Committee actively monitors bond-related activities, providing guidance on bond expenditures and making sure funds are used as promised. In a message to the Committee, Jo A.S. Loss, then Vice President of the Board, emphasized the importance of the Committee’s work, acknowledging the impact of Measure G as the largest bond approved in Castro Valley and the significant role it plays in enhancing facilities and technology for our students and staff. https://lnkd.in/gN8uZcS3

Dublin School Plans Major Transformation: A Taste of the Future in Fairview Here's an exciting piece of news for Dubliners! St. Joseph’s CBS Secondary School, under the Edmund Rice Schools Trust, is taking a big leap into the future. More classrooms, modern facilities, and even a sensory garden are part of the blueprint for this major refurbishment project. The school, located in the heart of Fairview, is set to gain three general classrooms, a home economics room, a multimedia room, and improved toilet facilities. Locker space and an electrical room are also part of the plan. And for those concerned with accessibility, a universal access toilet is on the cards too. St. Joseph’s isn’t just thinking about the here and now. The project also includes the refurbishment and reconfiguration of existing rooms to make way for a four-classroom SEN base with a multi-activity room. But the cherry on top? A 200 m2 hard and soft play area and a 100 m2 sensory garden, adding an extra touch of nature and tranquillity to the school environment. Now, for the numbers: the upgraded school will have a main floor area of 527.5 m2 and a gross floor area, including circulation and internal walls, of 598.0m2. While all this sounds impressive, the project will also involve knocking down the existing covered shelter of 210m2. In its place, the school promises to offer students state-of-the-art amenities that will make their learning experience more engaging and enjoyable. ??
