?? Why does PiCC United exist? In a world where healthcare decisions are often made far from those who live with the consequences, it's crucial to ask: ??? Who speaks for patients? ?? Who makes sure their voices are heard? ?????? This is where PiCC United comes in. At PiCC United, we believe that the patient voice is not just an important component of society - it's a necessity. Our mission is to create a healthcare system where patients are seen not just as recipients of care, but as active partners in decisions that affect their lives. ???? The reason for our work Patients are experts in their own experiences. They know how a treatment feels, what works and what's missing. But too often this invaluable insight is overlooked. This leads to treatments that can be ineffective or lack the human dimension. At the same time, many patients find their voices drowned out by the complexity of the healthcare system. Their perspectives are marginalized and their needs are overshadowed by financial and institutional priorities. We're here to change that. ???? The need for change It's not enough to invite patients to the table. We need to create spaces where they feel heard, valued and included as equal partners. Patient engagement is about more than listening - it's about taking patient input seriously and integrating it into real actions and policies. We see a healthcare system that is better, more inclusive and more efficient when patients and families are seen as valuable contributors. But to achieve this, we need to raise the bar for patient engagement. Our role in the change! ?? PiCC United works to: Create opportunities: We develop webinars and resources that make it easier for patients and caregivers to take the first steps in their journey to becoming powerful advocates. Building communities: Through networking forums and collaborations, we bring together patients, healthcare professionals and organizations who all want to make a difference. Changing culture: We create awareness that patients are not extras, but key players in shaping the future of healthcare. ?? A call to action If we truly want a healthcare system that works for everyone, we need to start with the people it's all about: patients. Exactly 7 years ago, an individual chose to detonate an improvised explosive device as over 14,000 music fans were leaving the Ariana Grande concert at The AO Arena in Manchester. This action ended the lives of 22 people, injured 100s, and changed the lives of 1,000s. The review chaired by Lord Kerslake, and the Inquiry carried out by Sir Saunders, brought out into the public domain what many professionals in event healthcare had known for a long time. That the emergency services do not arrive instantly, and when they do it takes time for them to be present at the scene itself in sufficient numbers as to exercise effective command and control. That companies offering event healthcare services are largely unregulated, with few standards & guidelines available for carrying out assessments for the cover needed, and even less for ensuring it is delivered. That people caught up in incidents who are uninjured often want to help, and others will run towards a scene to assist. ProMed was incorporated exactly 2 weeks before this occurrence. One of the reasons ProMed started was because we wanted to provide safe & effective event healthcare, with a mindset of preparedness driving our actions. We have taken the learnings from the Manchester Arena Inquiry, and from other incidents that have happened, and continue to improve our processes and systems so that we are prepared to deal with any situation which occurs on our events. We look forward to seeing new legislation & regulations that will keep event goers safe as they enjoy themselves. We envision an industry where every member of event healthcare staff is registered & regulated as an individual person, where organisations are inspected & assessed on their ability to appropriately assess and deliver a suitable, proportionate service which includes the capability for emergency preparedness & response, where the JESIP JD is exercised together by all safety stakeholders, so that when these incidents unfold, everyone caught up receives the best possible care and is given the best chances. #manchesterarena #Manchester #neverforget #RememberThe22 #WeStandTogether #ManchesterTogether #Manchester22
