?? Shroffs Foundation Trust at the Community Conference on Commons 2024 ?? We are proud to have been a panelist at the "Community Conference on Commons 2024" organized by the Foundation for Ecological Security (FES), where we presented under the theme Water Governance. Our panel, featuring stories shared by community members, showcased impactful initiatives from Chhotaudepur that have transformed lives: ? 35,000 ha treated through irrigation structures and watershed development. ? Conversion of unproductive dolomite mines in Zer into water-harvesting structures, now irrigating 2,500 ha and enabling a shift from maize to cash crops like cotton. ?? Using Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and GIS-based mapping, our community-centric microplanning identified and prioritized watershed needs, ensuring effective land and water resource management. ?? Pani Samitis, community-led water committees, have been pivotal in maintaining water-harvesting structures and ensuring equitable resource sharing—fostering long-term sustainability and resilience. This effort underscores the power of treating water as a shared community resource. By embracing collaborative watershed management, we are building stronger, more sustainable rural livelihoods and enhancing food security for tribal farming communities.
