Last week the GLOHRA Steering Committee joined a parliamentary event in support of global health research, hosted under the patronage of Bundestag member Ruppert Stüwe. This event marked the release of a report evaluating Germany’s contribution to Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) research and included broader discussions on global health research. In the panel discussion on Germany's engagement in global health, Beate Kampmann (Charité - Universit?tsmedizin Berlin & German Alliance for Global Health Research (GLOHRA)) emphasized the need for policies that promote interdisciplinary research and advocated for enhanced collaboration conditions with researchers in low- and middle-income countries. She also underscored the importance of engaging with stakeholders outside the health community, including economists, to bolster broader support for global health. Looking ahead we hope to build on recent progress in Germany's efforts to advance global health. On a group level, changes in salivary ion content differentiates healthy people from those with Sj?gren’s Disease , but not on an individual level and not in comparison to other dry mouth groups. We are thrilled to announce the official launch of the European Rare Diseases Research Alliance (ERDERA), spearheaded by the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM). #TIF is proud to be a partner in this large-scale collaborative effort. ERDERA marks a monumental step forward in advancing #research and #care for #rarediseases across #Europe, with the objective is to significantly improve the #health and well-being of the 30 million people living with rare diseases in Europe, including approximately 30,000 individuals affected by #thalassaemia. The Partnership is committed to creating a robust Rare Diseases (RD) ecosystem by fostering patient-centered research, developing innovative diagnostic methods and pathways, and leading the digital transformation that bridges care, patient data, and research. #TIF’s role will be pivotal in disseminating knowledge locally within #Cyprus and encouraging our EU network to actively participate in ERDERA-led activities and funding proposal calls. Important research being conducted by Prof Lenine Liebenberg (et al.) on the African microbiome. Having diverse populations in health research is crucial because it ensures that research findings are applicable to a wider range of people, leading to more accurate understanding of health issues and the development of treatments that are effective for everyone, not just a specific demographic group; this helps to address health disparities and promote equity by including populations that might otherwise be left out of studies, ultimately improving healthcare for all communities.
