Some moments that made my research scientist heart happy: ? Growing our TikTok community to 40,000+ scholars and learners ?? ? Securing first major brand partnership with Chegg Inc. ?? ? Landing speaking engagement at Virginia Tech about love and community ?? ? Completing multiple certifications in sexual health and counseling ?? ? Advancing doctoral research while building digital education spaces ?? But the real joy? On days when I’m not immersed in teaching data analysis, I find myself anchoring case study sessions; moments where I connect deeply with my students, helping them discover themselves and map out their paths to success.?? This year, I had the privilege of anchoring case study classes for over 27 weeks, a transformative program designed to help teenagers, whom we Community Innovation Hub (Formerly Teenpreneurs Hub) fondly call “Natives,” build personal development skills and gain clarity around their career choices. Together, we explored topics like Self-Awareness, Self-Discovery, Ideation, The Power of Choice, The Art of Communication, The Wheel of Life, and Goal Setting and Power of Visualization and more. These sessions didn’t just shape their tech journeys but also opened their minds to their strengths and potential.?? Through this program, I saw growth, resilience, and purpose come alive in my students. It was this work that paved the way for #CIHTechFest1.0, an event I was honored to coordinate. With the theme "Empowering Your Tech Journey: Building Skills, Brand, and Impact," the fest was tailored to help budding tech enthusiasts navigate the industry with confidence and clarity. It was a testament to the collective effort of everyone involved, and I’m proud to say that this year alone, I’ve impacted over 1,000 lives.?????? Getting comfortable with discomfort—recognizing growth happens outside our comfort zones. ?? Calling people (and their networks in), not out—fostering inclusion, not division. ?? Building trust, and doing it quickly—because trust is the foundation of progress. I remain committed to addressing barriers that stand in the way of equitable, thriving communities. This season of the ???On Campus Podcast??? from CITI Program dives into the engaged university to explore how campuses create meaningful connections—between students, faculty, alumni, and the community. I'm honoured to have kicked it off with an episode sharing insights from ?? The Connected College ?? and our work at Buro Happold (and brightspot before that)! It was a great conversation with host Edward Butch on: ?? The types of "connections" that lead to engagement; for example faculty/student mentoring ? The barriers to those connections such as siloed structures, outdated traditions, and my personal pet peeve: poor strategic plan ?? Surprising stats and stories from my research; for example, one university found when first year students attend 1+ event, retention increased from 65 to 77% ?? How technology and physical places can work together to create remarkable student experiences (if we do things like curb digital sprawl - but not your enthusiasm!) ?
