CARES is all about data. Yet, goodwill and community improvement are at the core of our organization. University of Missouri Extension regional director, Shatomi Luster-Edward, has used the CARES-supported All Things Missouri platform to help integrate data into community proposals leading to increased funding. "'Regular folks don’t have a whole lot of access to the research behind what we’re experiencing every day — that living in neighborhoods where you suffer from lack of hope cuts years off of our lives,' Lee said. 'The data-informed work we have been doing with MU Extension has given voice to that. In turn, it helps us get access to funding, information and the opportunity to understand how to reverse the cycle of disinvestment, decline and poor mental and physical health from struggle and stress.' This data-driven approach has helped the east side neighborhoods more effectively advocate for their fair share of Kansas City Public Improvement Advisory Committee (PIAC) money, Luster-Edward said. These funds support infrastructure improvement neighborhoods, such as road and sidewalk improvements, landscaping and clearing overgrown vacant lots." The Power of Community ?? Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking a lot about how important community is in both our personal and professional lives. Over the past year, I’ve seen firsthand how being part of a supportive network can make such a big difference. Here are a few things I've learned: 1.Different Perspectives Matter: Talking to people from various backgrounds has shown me new ways to solve problems and think creatively. 2. Support is Everything: Having a group to rely on for advice and encouragement helps tackle challenges much easier. 3. Sharing Knowledge: When we share what we know and learn from each other, we all grow together. 4. Giving Back: Helping others in the community is not just fulfilling but also strengthens the entire network. I’m grateful for the connections I’ve made here and look forward to continuing to build and strengthen our community. How has being part of a community helped you? I’d love to hear your stories! Thanks for being part of my journey! #letsconnect #connections #community #fellows #thankyou

The Power of Humanity in Action: Building a Future for Foster Children It's inspiring to see how individuals can make a transformative difference in the lives of others. Christian Bale is a shining example of this, dedicating 16 years and $22 million to create a village for foster children in Palmdale, California. This initiative isn't just about providing homes; it’s about offering a stable, loving environment for children who need it most. The village, which will include 12 houses, studio apartments, and community centers, goes beyond basic shelter. It’s a symbol of hope, resilience, and compassion. It highlights the importance of keeping families together and creating opportunities for these children to thrive. Fostering isn't just about offering temporary care—it’s about shaping lives, nurturing potential, and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to grow in a supportive environment. Acts like these remind us of the profound impact we can have when we choose to invest in the lives of others. Let’s continue to support and uplift these incredible acts of humanity. From Barriers to Bridges: FAFSA's New Era ???? For CJ Cook, college seemed impossible after entering foster care at age nine. But when Sierra College’s football coach recruited him, things changed. What truly transformed his path was learning about the financial aid for former foster youth. With support from federal and state programs, CJ graduated debt-free with a psychology degree from Sacramento State. This highlights the crucial role financial aid plays for foster youth and those who’ve experienced homelessness. The new FAFSA, despite a delayed release, promises a smoother process this year—offering hope for higher application rates and increased access. At JBAY, we’re helping foster youth maximize their financial aid through guides, step-by-step instructions, and webinars. Financial aid isn’t just a possibility—it’s a bridge to success. ???Read more on our blog: https://lnkd.in/g6war63J
