How do we attract (and retain) Gen Z in manufacturing roles?? Is the entire industry in need of a switch-up?? It’s news to no one that the demands of workers are changing. ? But somewhere these changes are being hit is in manufacturing – a traditional industry that might be embracing innovation in technology and processes... but less so when it comes to being an attractive employer.? There’s a significant shortage of Gen Z applying, securing and staying in manufacturing roles, further highlighting the discrepancies between this industry’s work culture and the needs of a younger workforce. ? Unlike their older peers, Gen Z is less motivated by money. More important than a good salary is an employer who offers career advancement, flexibility and the opportunity to have a meaningful impact.? So, until manufacturing companies switch their priorities and adapt to meet the needs of Gen Z, will we continue to see employment gaps and an ageing workforce impacting the sector?? What do you think? Does your company make a conscious effort to attract Gen Z candidates?? https://lnkd.in/gkj3i8fd? #TalentAcquisition #Manufacturing #Recruitment #Staffing?

There are over 500,000 jobs available in the manufacturing industry during a time when job opportunities for recent college graduates are severely wanting. Why is this? "[W]ith a significant portion of the manufacturing workforce nearing retirement age (consider that 2.6 million baby boomers are expected to retire from manufacturing jobs over the next decade) the boomer exodus is creating a vacuum that is currently not being filled quickly enough by younger generations, partly due to misperceptions about manufacturing jobs and a lack of awareness about the opportunities they present...Perceptions of manufacturing as an outdated or undesirable career pose a significant challenge to recruiting efforts in the industry. Many potential workers, view manufacturing jobs as dirty, monotonous, and low-skilled. This perception is often fueled by outdated stereotypes and a lack of awareness about the modern advancements in the industry. The reality is that?contemporary manufacturing involves sophisticated technology, automation, and innovation, offering diverse and rewarding career opportunities. However, changing these entrenched perceptions requires concerted efforts from manufacturers." And then there is the geographic mismatch. "Manufacturing plants are often situated in rural or suburban areas to benefit from lower costs, but these areas may lack a large local workforce. Conversely, potential workers often live in urban areas, far from these jobs." The unavoidable conclusion: "Addressing the [manufacturing] labor crisis requires a concerted effort to bridge the skills gap and reshape the public's perception of manufacturing as a viable and rewarding career path. The industry must leverage its increasingly high-tech environment to attract and retain the skilled workforce needed to sustain its growth and innovation." Those manufacturing companies - and motivated young workers with vision and ambition - who figure out how to bridge the labor divide will find themselves in enviable positions down the line as the American manufacturing industry reinforces and expands on its standing as one of the most critical contributors to GDP and national well-being. #manufacturingjobs #americanmanufacturing #manufacturing #modernmanufacturing #automation #employment #gdp #economy #collegegrads #engineering #workplace #madeinamerica #madeinusa
