Timely report launched today by Onward on the subject of #philanthropy (brilliantly researched & written by Shivani H Menon). https://lnkd.in/e-qK3VeV Very good to see government, and in particular Department for Culture, Media and Sport Minister Lucy Frazer, backing the report. I was glad to join a panel with the Minister to discuss the report (video below). It offers some sobering statistics - such as the fact that the wealthiest 10% of UK society give less proportionately than the poorest 10%. There is some "low hanging fruit" that the report helpfully outlines, including for example making tax breaks simpler. The points that I attempted to make in the discussion related largely to making the case for a longer term debate on shifting the culture. A combination of increasing size of government and secularisation of British society over last few generations arguably means that we need to try to find new mechanisms to encourage giving. https://lnkd.in/eCxNEZAk
