Today I have the opportunity to watch tandem lifting. Tandem lifting is when 2 cranes are used to lift an object. The load may be too heavy, too large or too long that a single crane may not be sufficient. In this case, the pressurized tank is sensitive to unnecessary vibration and also the length is about 11m. 1 50T and 1 30T cranes are used; the larger one bears most of the load. 1 skylift is also used for 1 worker to take off the lifting gears from the tank and vaporizer. Just like any other lifting, proper planning is crucial; from site observation, lifting plan, work procedures and enough communication between all team members.

As we all know Flagman is very important such that we certainly cannot do without one in Road construction work. Flagman make use of flags of different colors to control both vehicles and pedestrian to achieve safe movement at work.Most preffred flag colors used are red for STOP and green for GO. Appointing a trained and competent flagman will not only help prevent accident on site, It will add up to overall good time management. A trained and competent flagman will avoid working ahead of moving vehicle and giving mixed signals, which might as well be the two leading causes of accident during flagman's operation.

The two most important parts of Fleet Management: 1) Finacial, based on how the assets are purchased, rented, leased and maintained. 2) Personnel. If you don’t train, supervise and coach, they can ruin your fleet and create high risks to the overall business.
We hired a football coach to manage our fleet… I think when most construction companies think of a fleet manager they think of someone who was a mechanic Or someone who has come through the ranks from some kind of a equipment background. We decided to go with neither. Machines don’t know rules, machines don’t understand culture or discipline. Machines don’t care about deadlines. But operators do. And while I’ll argue that we have the best young operators in the game. We still don’t know what we don’t know. We wanted someone that could not only track and oversee our small but growing fleet but that would also instill knowledge and discipline within our team. Some might think we are crazy for how we do things, but the industry is changing and we want to be the tip of the spear. It has been a busy weekend with the Antwerp Maritime Academy gala evening and two pairs of Port of Antwerp-Bruges in and outbound pilotage jobs. Luckily the last outbound trip was in the daylight and the vessel had 11 meters of freeboard so we could film the combination ladder setup. The use of a combination ladder arrangement, which includes both an accommodation ladder and a pilot ladder, becomes necessary when the freeboard of the ship exceeds 9 meters. Here are the key considerations for this arrangement: ?? Free Space: Ensure there is a free space of more than 5 meters beneath the platform of the accommodation ladder. This allows the pilot boat to approach safely alongside the ship. ?? Pilot Ladder Extension: The pilot ladder must extend at least 2 meters above the platform of the accommodation ladder. This ensures a secure transfer between the pilot ladder and the accommodation ladder. ?? Independent Securing: Both the accommodation ladder and the pilot ladder must be independently secured to the ship’s side. This prevents swinging or instability, especially on vessels with considerable rolling motion. ?? Inner Stanchion: The inner stanchion on the bottom platform of the combination ladder is crucial. It provides balance and stability during the pilot’s descent or ascent. ??Trapdoor Arrangement: Some vessels use a trapdoor arrangement, which can be challenging for pilots due to its acrobatic nature. However, SOLAS regulations specify that if a trapdoor is present in the bottom platform of the accommodation ladder, the pilot ladder and man ropes must be rigged through the trapdoor, extending to the height of the handrail. Remember, proper rigging and adherence to safety guidelines are essential for successful pilot transfers using combination ladder arrangements. ????? https://lnkd.in/eM9cB4TF #maritimepilots
