The enchanting gemstone ‘Aquamarine' brings whispers of sea hues to the fore. Would you want to know more? Ensuring a large inventory across the globe, the most precious cuts of ocean-bright Aquamarine come from the Latin landscapes of Brazil, while some notable discoveries have occurred in the scorched corners of Kenya as well. Everything about this crystal swirls around water, from its name and colourings to the lores linked to it. A marriage of the two Latin words aqua, simply meaning ‘water’, and marina, which means ‘of the sea’, the gem's name is a direct reference to its colour. The gemstone's hardness, ranked between 7.5 and 8 Mohs, and a varying range of transparency makes this sweet spot popular with designers, artists, and carvers, who often opt for sculpting fantasy cuts, ornamental objects, and displaying fine detail with the stone. Much like the element of water that cleanses and rejuvenates, Aquamarine invokes the tranquillity of its namesake; it is why we flee to beaches and fall into a sweet calm at the sound of waves. It is the ocean turned from water into stone, with its sparkling and vibrant hues exuding utmost serenity. #aquamarine #gemstone #gem #brazilgems #kenyagems #gemstonemining #watergem #bluegem #ethicalmining?

Exceptional Auction Highlight: Roman Marble Portrait Head of a Man (Early 2nd Century A.D.) - Height: 26 cm This stunning Roman marble portrait head, standing at 26 cm tall and dating from the Trajanic period in the early 2nd century A.D., exemplifies the striking realism of Roman portraiture. With its calm and lifelike expression, this piece showcases the veristic style, capturing the true essence and individuality of its subject. Roman portraiture evolved through alternating cycles of realism and idealism, as each imperial dynasty aimed to legitimize their rule or connect themselves to their esteemed predecessors. Scholars believe that the realism seen in portraits like this one may have originated from the tradition of creating wax death masks, which were made directly from the deceased. These masks provided an accurate and enduring representation of Roman features, often crafted in wax, bronze, marble, or terracotta. This marble head boasts an illustrious provenance, having been part of a private collection in California, and later sold at Wood Dalling Hall Estate, Norfolk, UK, in 2019. ?? Expert Estimate: € 7,700 - € 8,500 A unique opportunity to own a piece of ancient history. Don’t let it slip away! https://lnkd.in/eCcidFSR #Ancientart #Antiquities #Auction #catawiki #AncientHistory #art
