Here at Bigmouth Audio, we value collaboration and quality above all else. We’re always looking for the best ways of working with our partners and new work flows in order to achieve the best results possible on every project. A few things we always do to ensure we’re moving towards this goals is… 1. We go where the talent is. We don’t limit ourselves to a pool of actors, editors or producers who happen to be with a certain radius of our studios. That’s why we have strategically placed studios in the North and South, tapping into talent from across the UK 2. We build small, dedicated teams to work on each project to ensure communication is as effective as possible. You want to be the priority, not just another project in the pipeline. Communication frustrations, poor planning, bandwidth issues, and a lack of personal touch can taint the experience for everyone during a production. 3. We’re constantly seeking feedback from our clients, staff and actors. There’s always something we can do to improve, and we want to find it. Getting an understanding of everyones experience during a project can only aid us in creating true collaboration that let us help our clients tell incredible stories that create great memories. Anything else we could be doing to improve collaboration and quality? #VoiceProduction #Actors #Casting #Collaboration #Recording #Editing #Producers #Clients #Games #Animation

$6 million to $10 million—that's the average cost of reshoots for a large studio movie, according to Variety. Think about that for a second. For major studios, it's a hefty line item. For independent filmmakers, even small scale reshoot costs can be devastating—forcing them to choose between compromising their vision or risking their entire project. The industry normalized this as ""just part of the process."" When performances need adjusting, dialogue isn't landing, or the edit reveals new creative possibilities, the solution has always been the same: regather the cast, rebuild the sets, and reshoot the scene. But what if they didn't have to (at least not for every scene requiring fixes)? At the intersection of storytelling and technology, Flawless is creating tools that let filmmakers perfect their vision without the logistical nightmare of reassembling an entire production. These tools also allow for a more efficient process for talent who may have already moved onto their next job. How easy is it to record a new line of dialogue from an iPhone instead of driving into a booth or traveling to another state/country? This isn't about replacing the craft of filmmaking - it's about democratizing it. When financial constraints no longer dictate creative compromises, imagine the new voices and stories we'll hear. What enhancements to the filmmaking process would you like to see? The possibilities are more exciting than ever.

PRE-PRODUCTION ISN’T JUST AN EXTRA STEP, IT IS THE LIFEBLOOD OF YOUR PROJECT. The more groundwork you lay before the cameras roll, the fewer headaches you’ll face on set. Early in my career, I got my first big-budget music video. But I made a rookie mistake: I underestimated pre-production. I thought I could handle most of the roles myself, like I had with smaller projects. Big mistake. We had to reshoot twice. Time, money, and energy—gone. That project changed everything for me. Here’s what I learned, and what every filmmaker needs to know: 1. Lock Your Budget Early: Don’t wait until halfway through to realize you’ve overspent. Plan for everything—props, crew, post-production, down to the smallest detail. 2. Build a Solid Crew: Trying to do it all yourself is a recipe for burnout. Hire a crew you trust, and make sure their skills complement yours. 3. Plan Your Shots: Get your shot list and storyboards ready before day one. Knowing what you want saves time and keeps the shoot on track. 4. Be Ready for the Unexpected: No matter how much you plan, things can go wrong. Have backup plans so you can adjust quickly when things don’t go as expected. Pre-production is where real filmmaking happens. If you’re not investing time here, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Pre-production is 90% of the work. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from pre-production? Share your thoughts below, I’d love to hear your experiences.

?? The Power of Sound Effects in Filmmaking ?? In the world of filmmaking, sound is not just an add-on—it’s a transformative force that shapes the entire viewing experience. High-quality sound effects elevate a project’s production value, immerse the audience, and create an authentic atmosphere. Here’s why sound effects are vital and how they enhance a film’s impact: 1. Enhancing Drama and Emotion ?? Sound effects intensify emotional depth and drama. For example, Dunkirk (2017) won the Oscar for Best Sound Editing due to its exceptional use of sound to build tension. The ticking sound effect, symbolizing urgency, became an iconic feature, pulling viewers into the tense atmosphere of World War II. 2. Adding Realism and Authenticity ?? Sound can make the unreal feel real. In Inception (2010), which won an Oscar for Best Sound Editing, the use of layered soundscapes turned surreal dream worlds into believable experiences. Detailed sound elements—from explosions to the rustling of objects—added layers of immersion and believability. 3. Elevating Professionalism and Production Quality ?? High-quality sound effects make a production feel polished and professional. This is why films like Gravity (2013) and Ford v Ferrari (2019), both Oscar-winners for Best Sound Editing, paid meticulous attention to sound design. These films achieved a level of audio precision that amplified the visual storytelling, making the experience unforgettable. 4. Drawing the Audience Into the Story ?? Sound effects bring viewers closer to the narrative by simulating a lifelike experience. In Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), the intricate sound design, from roaring engines to crashing metal, placed viewers directly in the intensity of the chase, allowing them to feel the raw energy of every scene. In short, sound effects are a storytelling tool that guide emotions, enhance authenticity, and make the difference between good and great filmmaking. ?? BLUEPRINTS FOR NEW FILMMAKERS: PART 3 POST-PRODUCTION Your journey from the final shot to the premiere is a complex, exhilarating process. New filmmakers, like you, need to understand that the POST-PRODUCTION process is crucial. Today, we'll go over some things that occur once the DIRECTOR calls "cut" on the final scene and the real magic begins. The FIRST STEP is ensuring all your shot logs and continuity reports are reviewed and every scene is accounted for and ready for... EDITING, where your raw footage is securely transferred and stored. This marks the transition to Post-Production. Your EDITOR assembles all the scenes in the script's order in the... "THE ASSEMBLY CUT," a rough draft that sets the foundation for... "THE ROUGH DRAFT," where the narrative starts to take shape. Editors remove unnecessary crap and tighten the story for the... "THE FINE CUT," where pacing and transitions are refined. This cut undergoes countless adjustments before it gets... PICTURE LOCKED as "THE FINAL EDIT," and NO further changes to the visual elements are made. You clean & sync up all dialogue tracks to ensure clarity for THE SOUND DEPARTMENT, who enhance the audio experience with well-placed SOUND EFFECTS (SFX). FOLEY ARTIST(S) record live sound effects that match on-screen actions. Then you re-record dialogue in a studio to improve audio quality or make changes. You MIX and BALANCE dialogue, music, and sound effects to create a harmonious audio mix. COMPOSERS compose and craft music that enhances the film’s emotional impact. You synchronize the score with the film. FINAL SCORES are recorded, often with orchestras or individual musicians. The VISUAL EFFECTS (VFX) folks plan, design, & identify scenes requiring visual effects and execute. DIGITAL ARTISTS create and integrate these effects into the footage. Directors and VFX supervisors REVIEW, REFINE, AND APPROVE the effects until they’re perfect. COLOR GRADING & CORRECTION adjust colors for consistency and to correct any issues. They enhance the film’s visual tone and mood, and hopefully create a cohesive aesthetic. AUDIO MASTERS finalize the sound mix for various formats like theaters, TV, and streaming. PICTURE MASTERS create the final master copy that includes the final picture, sound mix, and visual effects. SUBTITLES & DUBBING are added for international audiences. Various formats are preparedlike DCP (Digital Cinema Package) for theaters and digital files for streaming. PROMOTIONAL materials like TV Spots, trailers, & marketing elements are edited. QUALITY CONTROL conducts thorough checks for technical errors to meet industry standards. LASTLY... The Director, Producer(s), and sometimes the Studio signs off for the FINAL APPROVAL. Through DISTRIBUTION... The PREMIERE ultimately RELEASES to... THEATERS RELEASE, HOME ENTERTAINMENT, & STREAMING. MARKETING and PR are vital here to ensure that the public maintains interest. PRAY for good WORD OF MOUTH. Thanks! Please Like, Share, and/or comment.
