As transportation professionals, we have a responsibility to keep our roads safe. Distracted driving is one of the greatest threats to road safety. It's an epidemic. In fact, new data shows that distracted driving increased by a staggering 30% between 2019 and 2024. In the 60 seconds before a crash, over a third of drivers were distracted by their phones. The top culprits? Social media and messaging apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and others. The consequences are tragic, with thousands of deaths and hundreds of thousands injured. As an industry, we must question the continued use of switchable tags and pre-declaration apps requiring driver interaction. Instead, we should embrace technology and data-driven solutions to keep drivers more focused. We can proactively identify and address distracted driving by leveraging advanced technologies and data analysis, reducing accident risk. Let’s take action now and save our communities.
