"Do you still make losses?" And other questions I did asked a man who has produced tomatoes for 20+ years. "Yes. I do very much. Like right now, we are selling a crate at 2,000/-. That is a very low price". (Maybe I should ask mama mbogas, why don't tomato prices drop as much as they do at the farm. Whether farm gate prices are 2k or 8k, tomato is still 5 bob per piece. Anyway, I digress). So, we spoke and at some point he made reference to the October rain. "Isn't rain bad for tomatoes? If you planted now, the rain will find you at fruiting, which can ruin a lot of fruits. Not to mention the bad roads". He said, "As a matter of fact, we like it when the rains come. Because when it rains, the few tomatoes that succeed sell very well". I went into that valley afraid of open-field tomatoes. But now I am not. And that's the power of physical presence. It moves people from the point of "I am afraid" "I don't know" "How do I start" To "I know" "So it is that easy" "I start here" What do you think, shall we visit some open-field tomato farmers in Juja? Happy Monday ??.

#tellMe what is the coolest thing you've learned on your own !? S: I like plants, nature, and farming. I like to plant what I want to (consume) and can consume. So in my spare time I do some research how to farm in a city with limited space. And most of the literature that I read lead to #hydroponics. Which using AB concoction. A for macro nutrients and B for micro nutrients. Or vice versa. The thing is, using AB nutrients still feels like not 'all-natural' for me, so I tried to find more literatures on how to replace AB nutrients with something more 'all-natural'. That's where I found out about #aquaponics . T: To build a 'mini' farm to provide greens and seasoning to use for my family. A: To sped up the learning, I join a demo-product training to learn how to build practical hydroponics. From this experience, I tried to change what bits of not 'all-natural' to my preferences. I changed the bucket for AB nutrients for a blue tank that I fill with tilapia (ikan nila). R: This #miniFarm provides me with greens such as spinach, bokchoy, and lettuce. While the tilapia can also be consumed for additional protein. If you see on the bottom right, there are blue bucket and red bucket where i plant chili and tomato. Even though the tomato doesn't produce any for me, but the chili plant offer generous fruits for us to use in cooking. #behavioralQuestion #learnAndBeCurious #comments and #inputs are #welcomed ??

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.” - Miles Kington It finally is tomato planting season here in the Northeast.?? My favorites are heirloom tomatoes that are indeterminates. meaning there life is not determined by the fruit set..the plants will keep growing until weather shuts the production down. If you like making tomato sauce you may want to consider a determinate variety because all your fruit will ripen pretty close to a one time harvest. but I like slicers.....?? and cherry tomatoes....?? First figure out how you're going to trellis them. very tall stakes work.. a tall tripod with twine hanging down works. there's many ways to do it.?? I like using cattle panels suspended on T posts.. spacing is 2 feet apart. ?? ?? lots of organic matter, plus they are heavy feeders, so fertilizer helps. if you're buying plants from the store check carefully to make sure you're not bringing home any diseased plants. water in well when transplanting, best time of day is early morning, before the heat of the day.?? and a tip to help your plants is to plant basil and marigolds around your tomato plants, they're good protectors.???? and thinking of all my friends who served in the military, including my dad, on this holiday weekend ?????? #growingfoodandwealthwithdave #organicgardening #tomatoesareafruit #plantingtime #memorialday2024

?????????????????????? ?????????? ???????????????? ?????????????? Colorimeters objectively measure ripeness and quality of fruit, ensuring optimal harvest timing and consistent quality fruit. Used for a variety of fruits, these instruments can help in: Determining maturity The chlorophyll content of fruit, which is an indicator of ripeness, can be measured using colorimeters. This data can be used to determine the ideal time for harvesting. Grading fruit quality Fruit colour is a crucial aspect of determining quality. Colorimeters can measure the colour of fruit to ensure that it meets the required standards. Sorting fruit Fruit can be sorted into different grades based on colour using colorimeters. This process can help ensure that only the highest quality fruit reaches consumers. Order yours today!
