I think akin to handpicking your first hires, you ought to think along the same lines about your first customers. Spent the last 6 months or so running pretty successful b2b email and ad campaigns, but the most effective still seems to be identifying potential customers in your circle and giving them a product they really want to use. In this age of discovery call, let’s crack what’s the real purpose behind this amazing step If you thought that a discovery call is - A conversion call to close the deal - A call where the client is interested in your offer - A call for obtaining instant payment You are wrong. A discovery call is to - Know your lead (not a client yet) inside out - Understand their pain/challenge/fear deeply - Tell them if there’s a solution to their pain That’s it! Anything beyond this point will work against it Here's a secret: Most people won't buy anything until they know how it'll make them feel. So, make 'em feel something. Here's how: 1) Ask open-ended questions: Let them tell their story, then build a connection. Express relatability or talk about a similar experience you’ve heard from another professional or from anyone in your inner circle 2) Show them where they are: Are they in pain? Feeling stuck? Show them how you understand. Don’t get salesy. Imagine telling a doctor that you have been coughing and he immediately gives you a cough syrup in the next second? Think of the call as the exact same interaction 3) Highlight where they could be: New business heights? More freedom? Highlight how they'll feel when they get there. Show them an achievable yet magnanimous picture of a relieved outcome. 4) Don't drag it out: Wrap it up and tell them the step-by-step plan. It takes 7-touch points before a prospect to convert.
