The journey of NIYOU, a startup born from within an Entrepreneurship class at Creighton University's Heider College of Business, exemplifies innovation and collaboration. Two students, who had never worked together, joined forces due to their complementary skills. Just one year after their initial 60-day startup sprint, they had the chance to showcase their venture at the Big East startup competition. A special shoutout to Lance Frazier for encouraging them to participate. Their entry video is nothing short of remarkable—I'm confident they're on the path to victory. The team's early members, Valery Shafack and Matthew Mandolfo, set a high bar, which was only raised with the strategic addition of Samuel Perkinson. Apologies for the late post, but I’m excited to share my insights from the 5th session of the Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP), organized by the amazing team at JECRC University Incubation Centre. The event was filled with inspiring talks from the founders of Last Life, Cursed Pieces, and V-toys, who generously shared their entrepreneurial journeys—shedding light on the challenges they faced, their perseverance, and the invaluable lessons they learned along the way. Hearing about how they transformed ideas into thriving ventures, especially while still in college, was incredibly enlightening. Some key takeaways included: 1. Cultivating and refining innovative ideas ?? 2. Embracing risks and viewing failure as an essential part of growth ?? 3. Deeply understanding your target audience ?? 4. Utilizing mentorship and incubation systems for guidance and support ?? What truly stood out was the encouragement to begin our entrepreneurial journeys right here and now in college—with the right mindset and strategy, it’s both achievable and incredibly fulfilling! Stanford MSx Notes - Formation of New Venture Fall quarter will start on Monday and I am lucky to get enrolled for one of GSB’s most popular courses: “Formation of New Venture.” The lecturer, Scott Brady didn’t waste any time setting the record straight by raising the question in his previous BBL: “How many of you came here with a brilliant idea”. Only one hand was raised among 70 of us. Ouch! But then he threw us a lifeline: “However, you can learn some techniques through systematic approach.” Phew, there’s hope after all! For our first class next week, we’re diving into a juicy case study: ProjectSHED – a startup dream during the dot-com bust! Picture this: four Stanford GSB graduates, armed with big dreams and even bigger debts, trying to start their own company in 2000, right when the Nasdaq was crashing. They didn’t have a game-changing idea, and they faced rejection after rejection in the first few months. The pressure of real life started to get to them, and their resolve was seriously tested. But then, they stumbled upon a problem that was plaguing mobile operators on the eve of the 3G network revolution. Could this be their breakthrough? Can they make it through with just this idea? The case study doesn’t spoil the ending for us, but here’s a fun fact: the “SHED” in ProjectSHED comes from the initials of the four team members, and the “S” stands for Scott himself!
