I never planned on having a career in water infrastructure engineering (18-year-old Claire just wanted to live on a tropical island as a marine biologist – don’t we all!) But I can honestly say that this is one of the most diverse and rewarding career paths I could imagine - and I would choose the same again in an instant. ?Is there really anything more interesting, challenging and rewarding than being part of incredible multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural and multi-generational teams focused on delivering climate-resilient, nature positive infrastructure that improves life and livelihoods of future generations? Day to day I get to work alongside diverse global skillsets including policy makers, engineers, environmentalists, social scientists, planners, surveyors, modelers, community members... there's always something to learn, perspectives to share, and many opportunities to innovate and diversify. 100% recommend! #engineeringnetzero #waterinfrastructure #water #environmentcareer #atkinsrealis #environmentjobs #sustainabilitycareers #naturebasedsolutions #greeninfrastructure #netzero #waterengineering #climateresilience #infrastructure #canadajobs #environmentalengineering

?? Reflecting on an Incredible Journey: The Kanye Water Supply Distribution Network Rehabilitation Project ?? Working on the Kanye Water project has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career to date. From the moment I joined, this project has challenged me, taught me, and inspired me to grow into a more skilled and knowledgeable engineer. This project has provided me with hands-on experience and a deep understanding of the intricate world of water distribution. Whether it was designing and laying new pipelines, building secure water chambers, or planning and constructing water tanks, every aspect presented unique challenges and learning opportunities. ?? Pipelaying: Seeing the complexities involved in designing and laying pipelines was eye-opening. From choosing suitable materials to understanding the nuances of alignment and pressure management, each step was a lesson in the importance of quality and attention to detail in ensuring efficient water flow. ?? Water Distribution: The project has deepened my appreciation for effective water distribution systems. It’s easy to overlook just how critical distribution is in ensuring that communities receive consistent, safe, and clean water. Working closely with teams on-site, I gained insight into the planning and operational aspects that make reliable water delivery possible. ??? Water Tanks and Chambers: Building water tanks and chambers has been equally enlightening. Witnessing the structural and technical requirements firsthand, and seeing how they translate into secure storage and controlled distribution, reinforced the importance of resilience and sustainability in infrastructure. Reflecting on the past year, I’m grateful for the guidance, teamwork, and expertise I’ve experienced on this project. This opportunity has laid the groundwork for my future in civil engineering and water infrastructure. Giving thought to my journey from a graduate engineer to where I am now, I'm excited to continue building on this foundation. ???? #EngineeringJourney #WaterSupply #CivilEngineering #KanyeWaterProject #Infrastructure

Our #Water Industry Report has been covered by the Scottish Business News outlet today. Great to see! “To anyone closely following the plight of the water industry, Thames Water’s warning should come as no surprise. The sector is facing myriad challenges at the moment, however many of these could be solved by focusing on sourcing more engineers and building the size and capability of the workforce. Not only that, organisations also need to consider the way they engage specialists and look to leverage the value of the contingent workforce more effectively. Water is one of the UK’s truly critical industries, however with almost three-quarters of engineers considering roles in other sectors and a looming retirement cliff, employers could face significant challenges resourcing major projects in the future.” “The only way of maintaining these assets is by hiring the right engineers, and unless that foundational issue is tackled, and fast, then we will see more infrastructure related challenges appearing in the coming years. https://lnkd.in/eQvWQeRt #recruitment #hiring #AMP8 #infrastructure

Planners - where do we put them? When I started as a recruiter 20 plus years ago, coming from a career in engineering and architecture, I had honestly never heard of an environmental planner, but even today, looking on SEEK, I still never know where quite to to categorise them or even choose a good job title? "Senior Planner" (too easy to confuse with Maintenance, Production or Project Planners) "Senior Environmental Planner"? "Senior Resourcement Management Planner"? "Senior Consents Planner"? Also...which classification? (I confess I just copied the majority). I could choose: - Urban Design and Planning (Design and Architecture) - I chose this - Environmental, Earth & Geosciences (Science & Technology) - I prefer this? - Strategy & Planning (Consulting & Strategy) - Government - Local (Government & Defence) - Mining, Resources & Energy To all of the enviromental planners - help me out here - what do you prefer?
