Knowledge is power, and it’s time we spread the word. Working on the #ChooseChoiceNow campaign was a deeply insightful experience. Many people don’t realize the far-reaching impact of the Trump-era global gag rule—a policy that will cause MSI to lose a staggering $14 million in funding. The consequences for women’s health and reproductice rights worldwide are unimaginable. This isn’t just an issue “out there.” It affects real people—wives, sisters, daughters. Having visited an MSI clinic in #Kenya a few weeks ago, I was struck by a surprising fact: most abortions are sought by married women. Yet, societal taboos prevent open conversations about this reality. If we approach the topic with more understanding, we can break down these barriers. Let’s spread the word, support MSI’s vital work, and educate ourselves on these issues. ?? Today marks two years since the Dobbs decision which overturned Roe v. Wade and decimated federal protections for abortion access nationwide. "The Dobbs decision issued June 24, 2022 upheld Mississippi's ban on abortion after 15 weeks. Since then, states have enacted a range of laws from near-total abortion bans to shield laws protecting patients from other states who travel to get the procedure. The decision has even bled into questions on the FDA's independence and access to in vitro fertilization." (USA Today) It is important that we reflect on this day and consider what the abortion landscape in the United States looks like now. Millions of people who have the ability to get pregnant, including women, trans, and nonbinary people, live in states where abortion is banned and would be forced to travel hundreds of miles to get one. This can jeopardize the physical, mental, and financial health of a person who is pregnant. The Guttmacher Institute map shows the current abortion landscape. Lying to people about healthcare is simply despicable. So, I have posted what the process of a surgical abortion ACTUALLY looks like. Last year, our border country, Benin Republic legalized abortions for the entire first trimester when 90% of abortions are had. They CHOSE to prioritize women’s health. 81years ago, Marie-Louise Giraud, was beheaded in France, for offering abortion care to women. Protective Abortion ballot measures in seven states was passed, while in three states it failed. This change will provide access for two million women. Why is this even an issue? Why is the life of a woman during "her pregnancy" has been devalued, sacrificed and placed on the chopping block for human rights protection in America? Among the most profound abortion ban states in the USA, there is a decreasing number of Gynecological and Obstetrical practices resulting in deserts to access to hospitals or birth centers that offer obstetrical and/or women's healthcare services to millions throughout their lifespan. - "More than 2 million women of childbearing age live in maternity care deserts (1,052 counties) that have no hospital offering obstetric care, no birth center and no obstetric provider." - "Almost 130,000 babies were born in maternity care deserts." - "An additional 3.5 million women of childbearing age live in counties with limited access to maternity care." 37.8 million women - have legal life saving abortion care 2.6 million women - a ballot measure could remove an abortion ban 2.5 million women - a ban after 12 or 15 weeks is unleashed upon women 23 million women - a total and near-total bans is unleashed upon women "Nationwide, more than 57 percent of women ages 15-44 live in a state where abortion is legal.
