The session concluded with a powerful call to action to policymakers: ???Support building and sustaining trust among the public and healthcare professionals, ???Develop tailored?strategies?to?address?the?specific?needs of individual countries, ???Prioritize prevention?by making data-driven decisions that ensure adequate interventions. ? #CervicalCancer #HPV #Europe

As we observe Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, we reaffirm our commitment to support the WHO's mission to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health issue by 2030. Cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates are highest in low- and middle-income countries, reflecting gaps in access to HPV vaccines, screening, and treatment services -- and further influenced by social and economic challenges. At MSD, we are dedicated to bridging these gaps and making a tangible impact, as we work to ensure that communities in the EEMEA region are able to prevent and combat cervical cancer.? Together, we can contribute to a world where cervical cancer is no longer a threat to women's health. #CervicalCancer #CervicalCancerAwareness

Let’s talk cervix. (Yep, we went there.) January is Cervical Health Awareness Month—a perfect reminder to prioritize prevention. Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when caught early, thanks to regular screenings and the HPV vaccine. Our CEO & Founder, Dr. Bill Cherniak, has worked alongside the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on efforts to eliminate cervical cancer. He has also co-authored a paper on strategies for cervical cancer eradication. Additionally, research from Bridge to Health emphasizes the critical role of early detection. There are over 150 types of HPV, but fewer than 10 types actually lead to cancer. HPV 16, HPV 18, HPV 31, HPV 33, and HPV 42 are examples of high-risk HPV types. Many clear the virus on their own without any symptoms, but high-risk strains can cause cell changes leading to cancer. #HPVvax

On #CervicalCancer Elimination Day of Action, we are proud to spotlight a Bevan Exemplar Cohort 8 project by Helen Munro (Hywel Dda University Health Board), Debbie Harvey (Life Sciences Hub Wales), and Zoe Couzens (Public Health Wales). Their initiative explored HPV self-sampling at home—a convenient option that could increase cervical screening uptake and improve outcomes. Results showed that 64% of participants preferred HPV self-sampling, highlighting its potential to save NHS resources and patient time while addressing barriers to screening. Cervical cancer is the first cancer in history that’s poised for elimination. However, in 2022, 660,000 women were newly diagnosed with the disease, with 350,000 women losing their lives to it. If nothing changes, models show that, by 2050, #cervicalcancer incidence and mortality rates could reach 948,000 and 543,000, respectively. This report, published by TogetHER for Health in partnership with The Commonwealth Secretariat, makes the case for increased investment in a holistic approach to global cervical health. Integrating high-performance #HPV testing into cervical cancer prevention strategies is critical to leaving no one behind in our mission to eliminate this preventable disease. It also provides essential insights and actionable results from countries already paving the way. Cervical Cancer Awareness Month may be one month out of the year, but our efforts to raise awareness are constant. Join us as we shed light on this conversation: https://spkl.io/6041fcOGb
