Excited to kick off the third teaching week with University of Oxford, Department for Continuing Education in collaboration with The King's Foundation on #UrbanDesign and #Placemaking. The preparations for this week involved delving into various insightful resources. One concept that resonated deeply is the significance of Place-making, particularly for #publicspaces, beyond mere aesthetics in urban design. Place-making is a transformative process, resulting in well-designed and vibrant spaces with meaning for those who use them—spaces ideally co-designed with the people involved. It extends beyond the physical, connecting it with emotions, memories, safety, people, and ideas of the #urban dwellers. #peopleincities #sustainableurbandevelopment #SDG11 #Reflecting on a past visit to #SanSalvador, I encountered a spacious, well-designed public area that remained largely empty on a sunny weekend day, with me as the sole occupant. This experience prompts contemplation on the potential reasons for such abandonment and how the concept of place-making could breathe life into similar spaces.

This year, we were honoured to collaborate with New Hall School on a truly inspiring project that exemplifies both our design capabilities and our dedication to delivering excellence. The school presented us with a distinctive challenge: to transform their Politics and Business Centre into an environment that would ignite ambition and inspire future leaders, with a nod to one of the most iconic political addresses in the world—Downing Street. Our design team embraced the ambitious brief, working meticulously to bring this vision to life. With only weeks before the summer holidays, we accelerated the design and planning process, ensuring we could deliver this high-profile project within a six-week timeframe. The centrepiece of the project was the creation of a stunning replica of Downing Street, complete with an alleyway through the building that mirrors the famous London street. The result is a truly remarkable space that captures every detail of the original, down to the exact design of the famous doors of numbers 9, 10, and 11. We left no stone unturned in ensuring authenticity, even going so far as to engage the very decorators responsible for painting the actual doors of Downing Street. This attention to detail extended to the letter plates, door furniture, and overall finish, all of which have been crafted to replicate the original as closely as possible. From the carefully selected materials to the precision in execution, this project has been delivered to the highest standards. Our longstanding relationship with New Hall School, spanning over 20 years, is built on trust and collaboration. Last week we were pleased to be back in #Waterlooville to showcase to the public how we have progressed their ideas from both the walking tours in November and the three day Festival of Ideas event in January. As the planners on the project team we are capturing all the information and ideas shared from these public engagement events and creating the Waterlooville Town Centre Masterplan Supplementary Planning Document on behalf of Havant Borough Council. The developing vision for Waterlooville Town Centre currently looks like: ??Prosperity for all: Growth and regeneration of multiple uses to ensure people return to give confidence to investors. ??Support mixed uses: An appropriate quantum of retail, leisure and residential development of a high standard. ??Excellent public realm: Civic spaces that contribute to health and wellbeing. ??Convenient access and movement: Improve pedestrian, cycling and public transport routes and consolidating car parking. ??Green and pleasant environment: Green-first, low carbon mindset to ensure renewable and sustainable energy proposals are prioritised. My work has been Longlisted for the Re:Store Oxford Street competition! The ideas competition organised by Architects’ Journal and SAVE Britain’s Heritage sought proposals for the much publicised Marks and Spencer’s building on Oxford Street. My idea imagined a re:growing of the Marks and Spencer’s Oxford Street home creating a central hub for food and drink in all its forms; growing, harvesting and cooking. The site will serve local people within the city in several ways whilst focussing on research and education for the wider public in healthy eating and pioneering technologies around food. The existing buildings will be retained and re-grown into a productive landscape. Where window sills become planters and rooftops become allotments. Light will be drawn into the centre of the building allowing the sun’s rays deep into the plan, bringing life back into the heart of the structure. The rooftops will be extended with signature architecture which will beautifully against the historic fabric. From the 13-strong longlisted teams a final six entries will be chosen to take part in a day-long charette, no overall winner will be selected. I love getting involved in these type of ideas competitions, lots of energy and interesting conversations and it’s lovely to be longlisted amongst other more established names. Can modularity bring spatial richness to affordable housing? The 3×3 meter starting point of these houses allows customization and adaptability, while the ability to add on to the initial form allows residents to create a living space that is uniquely their own. Arranging the houses in a modular pattern, has created a visually stunning community that is a testament to the complexity that can arise from simplicity, in 2D site plan and 3D building massing. Design of A Commercial High-Rise Building concept : Creating a Illusional Landmark in Urban Space

Plans have been submitted to build a 42-storey tower ?????????? a historic listed building in Birmingham. The design sees 80 Broad Street - an old orthopaedic hospital - maintained and the tower built above and around it. Examples of projects where new and old are intertwined in this way, can be seen in Australia and Canada. The developers of this proposal say it demonstrates a "distinctive and innovative approach" and allows for the retention and careful repurposing of a grade II-listed building while simultaneously creating a striking landmark tower.
