Illinois’ new Medicaid demonstration program that supports facilities that provide comprehensive, around-the-clock behavioral healthcare and substance abuse treatment is set to begin in October. [Health News Illinois] Kristine Herman, chief of the behavioral health bureau at the Department of Healthcare and Family Services, told members of the Medicaid Advisory Committee that they are working on a “robust communication and technical assistance strategy” to ensure all participating clinics can begin offering the necessary services by Oct. 1. [Health News Illinois] The initial?19 mental health and substance use treatment providers?in the demonstration program must provide care coordination, 24/7 access to crisis services and serve all patients, regardless of their ability to pay. “These agencies will serve anyone who comes through their doors, regardless of the individual's insurance status, and they're going to ensure that these individuals have access to a very broad array of mental health, substance use, recovery, and physical health screening services, as well as referrals and coordination with any other services that the individual may need,” Herman said. Always thankful when I take time to attend #healthcare events and they provide #ROI. Houston Bisnow brought together some really insightful conversations on a variety of topics, from the panel discussions to connections made with partners and clients from across the region. Among the discussions- trends influencing decision making. Among the takeaways : ?Competition differentiation- consider it friendly competition as all hospitals do their best to support all community members but they must create effective strategies to differentiate themselves and attract patients and caregivers ? Convenient access to health services- bringing services to communities outside city center; traffic and schedules affect families and caregivers ? Efficient flow and throughput- treat patients quickly, effectively and thoughtfully ? Service lines specialties- Focus on full service and deliver services others aren’t ? On-board a Clinical psychologist - ROI from insurance reimbursement- they aren’t reimbursed so many facilities don’t have them. ? Technology advances-Telehealth services increasing for child adolescence therapy and psychology ? Harris Health focusing on indigent care. Work to keep community members out of hospital. Established #FoodPharmacy- active way to manage and help keep food insecure individuals fed Appreciated hearing multiple perspectives from Esmaeil Porsa Stephen Glazier, FACHE Lisa Bovermann and the rest of the panel. Communication is key to successful #collaborations across the industry, including between institutions and their business partners. It was good hearing from Gaurav Khadse Patrick M Casey, AIA Pam Brink and consultants that partner with them about how these institutions are communicating, internal and externally. A couple of common themes shared: ? Extensive on-boarding and sharing of ‘rules of engagement’- all agreed it was important to their programs ? Harris Health System hired a professional facilitator ?and do personality profiles on all team members to make sure they compatible ? Texas Children's Hospital understands that challenges come up; it's how they are resolved; create an environment of safety for all ? MD Anderson Cancer Center spoke to how communication fosters culture and teamwork Common perspective- all working to achieve best in class real estate facilities. As Patrick Casey noted, they measure success. A strong team is built with a culture of trust. So good connecting with regional partners, clients and friends across the region including Kurt Young ?Cody French, P.E., LEED AP Candace LeVaughn Steve Wheeler William Boyd to name a few.
