The Senate Inquiry into issues related to #menopause and #perimenopause is currently underway, and Monash Women’s Health Alliance members are making submissions to provide advice on the economic, physical, mental and financial impacts, and the cultural perceptions and attitudes towards this largely neglected area of #womenshealth.?? Monash experts advise that medical management and community understanding of menopause would be improved by upskilling the healthcare workforce in menopause-related care, and better community education is needed so that women can make informed health choices, and avoid using costly and ineffective complementary therapies marketed to women via social media. The mental health impacts of menopause?also must be included in the research that underpins evidence-based care, and the Alliance is also calling for freely available access to contraception for perimenopausal women to reduce the risk of unintended pregnancies and abortion. The Alliance is proud to advocate for improved menopause research, education and care and looks forward to the outcome of the Senate’s final report. If legislators would stop playing doctor without a license, we could stop blocking care to women. Women in menopause are not getting abortions. This is ridiculous. “Government so small it fits in your uterus” - senators and legislators need to stop being human tampons and get out of women’s reproductive systems. Legislators: Go fix some potholes and provide needed oversight of #hospital administrators like Steward Health. https://lnkd.in/eD4q4qG9 31 hospitals bankrupted by #privateequity should matter more than making #menopause even worse for women. Do your job to serve and protect the public in ways that matter.
I operate on many people who are post menopausal. Often, when we hit menopause our cervix becomes stenotic. I gave a couple patients cytotec this month to help with this issue. In Louisiana, my patients, even post menopause, would need to be scrutinized and now need to use a system that criminalizes these meds. Clearly no one actually talks to doctors or obgyns to make these decisions. We are continuing to criminalize basic things for women. This will continue to impact whether obgyns train and live in this state. Patients will suffer. #obgyn #womenhealth #doctor #physician https://lnkd.in/gMG6bJmA

This article perfectly captures why 2024 is such a pivotal moment for menopausal women. The statistics are staggering but not surprising - only 10.8% of NIH funding for women's health? And buried within that, an amount so small for menopause research it can't even be calculated? This is exactly why we can't stay silent. We need sustained funding, comprehensive medical education, and insurance coverage for treatment. With 75 million American women in some stage of menopause, our voting power is immense. This isn't just about hot flashes – it's about our fundamental right to evidence-based healthcare. Share this with someone who needs a reminder to show up for women’s health. https://lat.ms/4fwUAH7 #Halleberry #WomenEmpowerment #menopausematters #empowerwomen? #menopausemondays #fearlessvagina ? ?
