Imagine businesses assembling AI like apps on a smartphone, picking only what they need. I think this shift on Modular AI opens exciting opportunities for the future, from being a black box to something we can control and customize. It has the potential to become the standard for building intelligent systems, leading to the rise of AI ecosystems, where companies and developers collaborate by sharing modular components, specialized reasoning tools or domain-specific models. This could enable faster innovation across industries as well as drive Hyper personalization. Naveen Rao, Matei Zaharia and Patrick Wendell, Well structured and insightful.

So basically another spin off or new method of naming SOA???? Can you think mathematically why and how the complexity of these systems will explode? And over time there will be massively diminishing returns with modularisaton? But I guess who cares as long as we can create a hype

I see that the emphasis is on engineering practices that prioritise flexibility and maintainability in AI systems, but does a shift to modular AI come with any trade-offs in terms of system performance or latency?
