Our Case Management team is FULL OF SMILES as we celebrate National Case Management Week! These are the healthcare professionals who help support, guide, and coordinate care for our patients, families and caregivers. They assess patient needs, connect patients with services and resources, make sure patients are getting the right care, and plan for patients’ continuing medical needs after they leave the hospital, all with a goal of making sure our patients have the best possible outcomes. They truly are patient advocates and a vital part of our healthcare team. We are blessed to have THE BEST Case Managers here at Morris Hospital!?

Would you rather add days to life, or add life to days? Critical to patient care is knowing when to carefully and professionally start transitioning a patient to thinking of the quality of life they desire as they receive treatment…especially for terminally ill patients. Designing the communication protocol, timely, is most important too. Be brave and call the family meeting at the hospital and share medical facts with empathy.

?? Have you ever noticed the difference between a referral and a consultation? ?? Let's learn in easy words. A consultation is a request by a qualified provider for the advice or opinion of another physician regarding the evaluation and management of a specific problem. A referral is the transfer of care from one physician to a second physician when the second takes over responsibility for the patient's treatment.

In my practice, I've seen anxiety calmed with a listening ear, the comfort provided through heartfelt conversations, and kindness lifting spirits during the darkest days. So here's the big question: Are we ready to embrace empathy and compassion in our daily interactions with patients and transform their healing journey? Share your experiences and insights on the power of empathy and compassion in the comments below. Let's make a difference, one compassionate act at a time! ????
