Rainmaker’s own Laurie Herrick recently had the privilege of traveling to Chicago for the Jewish Camp Summit, co-hosted by JCamp 180 and the Foundation for Jewish Camp. During the summit, Laurie led a dynamic session with a diverse group of Jewish camp professionals—from lay leaders and executive directors to camp directors and development staff—gathered from across the country. Her presentation focused on the essential role of building a Culture of Philanthropy within Jewish day and overnight camps. Laurie shared actionable strategies on how camp leaders can create a donor-centric environment that empowers staff, volunteers, and leadership to attract and sustain long-term philanthropic support. Leadership comes in all shapes and sizes. You can hold a position on your local HOA, PTA or on a committee at your church or synagogue. You can sit on a nonprofit board or chair a fundraiser. Many people have chosen to lead in the civic space of City, County and State government. They are elected school board members or have joined a municipal board or commission. Regardless of where you show up, you need to be familiar with all areas of community and civic engagement. As leaders we need to: 1. Understand how our City, County and State government works. 2. Be able to share where folks can get information on what is on November's ballot. 3. Help someone get connected to our local sources of civic engagement data like A2SI and CAN. Being a Passionate Advocate, Connected Neighbor, Educated Voter, Engaged and Trained Leader, are some of the topics we will be covering in Leadership Austin's Friday Civics program.
