How accusing your partner is robbing you of love and connection... In the last 10+ years as a Couples Therapist and Psychologist, I have done over 10,000 hours of therapy. I’ve learned most partner’s accidentally slowly kill their connection. It’s like a slow death by 100000 papercuts. We accidentally do these connection robbers: -Attack our partners when we are hurt -Criticize our partners to protect our hearts. -Act superior and assert that their partner’s feelings are invalid. When you can respond to your partner’s emotional needs, it’s like a glow of magic courses between you and bonds you together. When you criticize your partner’s emotional needs, it’s as if they deflate like a balloon and shut down… ...or fill with steam and counter attack. If you want to improve your communication so you can grow together... ?? check out Relationship Psych- The Podcast for common toxic communication mistakes. ? click the link - https://lnkd.in/gsbPywn ?looks for Relationship Psych on your favorite podcast app. ? listen to ep. 51: Relationship Communication to uncover the toxic mistakes many couples make. Growing up, finding a partner, having kids. This is the typical trajectory of most people. With life changes comes new challenges, new values, and being able to understand what is important now. ? At this stage in our lives, my wife and I are trying to navigate spontaneity, adult friendships, our relationship, our kids, and continuing to grow as individuals. But where is the time for it all? Can we still be spontaneous with all our responsibilities? Are we aligned together on what is most important? ? This is challenging for us. We mature and grow up at different rates. Nikki got out of the partying life earlier than I did. I found personal development before she did. ? As we have continued to grow our lives and our family, communication and alignment has become more crucial. When do we go out? How long do we go out for? If we go out, how does that impact the next day? Things we didn’t have to think about before, we have to now. ? It has taken time for us to find ways to navigate the challenges of wanting to have it all. Fun with friends, time with kids, time with ourselves, and time with each other. ? In this week's episode of Over Dinner, Nikki and I discuss a recent spontaneous decision we made that caused us to have a more deeper conversation about how we manage it all. We discuss the impact of our decisions and tools we have used to be on the same page. Check it out and let us know your thoughts! #OverDinner #podcast #spontaneity #couples Apple: https://lnkd.in/eV7sZm3n YouTube: https://lnkd.in/e5GTfg4u

The weekend is here, and it feels good to wind down, read and reflect…. Rejection is not uncommon in our daily lives. From getting told our ideas are not good enough to swiping left on Tinder, it cuts both ways. And so, taking a leaf out of Barbara Corcoran’s playbook on rejection, or similar unpleasant experiences: 1. Acknowledge our feelings and own our emotions. 2. Don’t dwell on negative emotions. 3. Extract motivation from the experience. 4. Focus on what we can control. In doing so, we flip the script - from negative to positive - and make the emotions work in our favour. Positive thoughts empower us for the better. “Happiness and freedom begin with a clear understanding of one principle: Some things are within our control, and some things are not.” - Epictetus #flipthescript #empowerment #inspirationalwomen #positivemindset #positiveimpact #positiveaction #clarity #focus #winningmindset #motivation #emotionalintelligence
