?? The Security Data Fabric Shift Explained?? Last month, Zscaler acquired Avalor for $350M. A security data fabric and vulnerability management startup that only came out of stealth in April of 2023. This acquisition sparked tons of interest and funding activity in the security data management space. It also reignited the platform v. best-of-breed debate and hinted at what's to come for AI in security products. However, this acquisition had many question marks surrounding it. In this deep dive, I cover: ? What security data fabrics and security data ETL are ? The flurry of activity that happened immediately after the acquisition ? Why the acquisition makes sense for Zscaler ? What other vendors are doing with data fabrics including CrowdStrike, Microsoft, F5, and SentinelOne. ? The implications for the security industry, including incumbents, startups, and security teams I also explore the growing importance of data and AI in security and how this acquisition positions Zscaler well for the next 5-10 years. What are your thoughts on this acquisition and the security data management space? Let me know what you think in the comments section! ?? ?? Great blog. Check out what we built at Ockam. We make the "T" and "Fabric" parts trivially easy to wire up and *super* secure.
great breakdown Darwin Salazar, MSc. Do you think there are data fabrics of different sizes and scale? For example a data stream coming from scanning IAM records going to be very different than a data stream coming from live network traffic. What strikes me here is that ZS due to the nature of it's networking business is going to have significantly different scale than say a traditional VM biz.
Yep, this is right in my wheelhouse. I built this market for years at JupiterOne and have followed it closely ever since. I'll deep dive into this, and it's very likely I will write my own piece similar to this soon! Keep up the awesome work, Darwin Salazar, MSc!
Fascinating insights into the Security Data Fabric shift. Can't wait to read more. ??#securitydataprotection
Very well explained. Thanks for posting.
Fantastic explanation! I admit, I didn't really understand the terms "data fabric" or "security ETL" before reading this post. Thanks for this!
Been reading and researching this category in recent weeks. Thanks for sharing Darwin Salazar, MSc
Excellent analysis and thanks for explaining data fabric to me. My take is that the SSE vendors have a tremendous proprietary dataset for understanding where threats are coming from in real-time, and that would be an incredibly powerful context for their customer's defensive teams. Avalor gives Zscaler a way to make that data actionable. Imagine adding detections to your CNAPP or prioritizing specific patches/remediations based on real-time observations of external threat activity. You need a data fabric to make that possible.
